After school activities at home

Has anyone got any decent ideas for 30 min or so activities I can do with my DS5 after school
.
Got into a habit of giving him his tablet but don't think it's great for him and he needs something to reconnect / decompress with me.
Also have a 3 year old so if he can join in too even better.

Can only think of decorating cakes, colouring or painting. What do other people do??
Thank you

I don't think Anya let for half an hour after school is a bad thing. Kids need to relax and decompress after school.

However...

Chalks outside on slabs
Stop at the park on the way home
YouTube drawing videos
Help you make tea
You read to them

Use cocktail sticks and bits of food (cherry tomatoes, sticks and circles of cucumber etc) to make people/vehicles/scenes out of veg then eat them.

If you have a garden, chalking on ground, bubbles, play with a ball, obstacle course, scavenger hunt.

Cosmic kids yoga on tv.

Jigsaw. Lego. Train track. Junk modelling. Play dough.

No harm in watching a half hour programme together. It's chill time and bonding in a way that him playing by himself on the tablet isn't.

Growing up we always played a board game together when I got home from school. Orchard toys have board games that 3 year old can join in with.

PuttingDownRoots · 01/06/2024 22:24

Board games
Jigsaws
Lego challenges

MigAndMog · 01/06/2024 22:25

Orchard Toys games or games like pairs.

Help with cooking dinner!

Cosmic yoga

Puzzle
Colouring
One of our favourite is rich tea biccies, runny icing and a selection of decorative sweets! Today theme was faces!!

Doesn't he have toys to play with

Faux naive nastiness.

OP says she and her son like a half hour together when they get home 🙄

OP my dad taught me to play different board games for a half hour to an hour when I got in from school. I loved that time with him. If it was my mum who had picked me up she used to bake with me or play legos with me. Then yes, I'd play with my toys. Unless it was summer then they wouldn't see me for dust as I'd be straight out to the garden to play.

Sink full of washing up bubbles?
Read stories?
Shadow drawing their favourite toys?
Stick the radio on the dance like loons?
Kids Zumba on Youtube?
Reusable stickers on the windows?

Park on the way home - take a drink and snack - home chill 30 min - could be tv or tablet , then no screen time - tea , read to him , play board games, build Lego together - bath water play , story and bed .

Love lots of these ideas - thanks so much! Excited to try some with him.
