First night in toddler bed

Ok, tonight is the night! First night in a toddler bed for my 2 year old (2 and 1 month). It’s just her cot bed with the side removed so still familiar, needed after climbing out.

The room was already safe in terms of wires, furniture, stair gate on door so I’m not so worried about that, I just want to make sure I have a technique in my mind before the games start so I don’t crack!

She currently has a story, gets tucked in then I say night night and leave and she goes to sleep. So I'm thinking I just do the exact same. Then if she does get out, do I just keep returning her to bed with as little interaction as possible?

Hoping having a plan means I won’t crack and be in there with her at 3am!

Ooh good luck OP. Our first night with our previously well sleeping child was absolutely fine and then on night 2, she figured out she could escape.... I'm ashamed to say after the 3rd night of putting her back to bed a million times, we put a baby gate on her door.... 😬

But yes - I think you just have to stick with it, don't engage and whatever you do don't go back...!

For a glimmer of hope, DD is 3.5 now and sleeps like a champ!

My youngest spent an hour plus each time escaping at bed time- but we cracked it in 3 nights and she always slept through once she got to sleep. Keep putting them back and don’t overly engage.

20 ish minutes and 3 returns back to bed and she seems to be settling now 🤞🏻

How is it going OP? I'm invested!

We just let him play in his room after lights out. Like you, gate on the door so he's safe. Eventually he takes himself to bed.

I will only go in if he's distressed about something.

We always stayed with them with cuddles and stories until they were asleep so we didn't have this issue but I would say just carry on exactly as you were doing before as that was obviously working!

Oh good luck I sat on the stairs all night I did try to stick to the Autumn nights too .

Sorry I’ve just seen these - it was successful for a first try! 3 returns between just after 7 and 7.30 then she stayed in bed until 6.15 this morning! She didn’t fall out either (it’s very low so wouldn’t matter if she did). Let’s see what tonight brings, someone mentioned that 2nd night was worse!!

I can't remember the second night being worse but it does have an element of 'Scooby?' being about it .

Haven’t had to go in at all tonight :) Beginners luck maybe but fingers crossed it was a good decision!
