Just wondering, as it quite interests me, although i havent properly studied RE to a proper level, eg GCSE, A-level and have no RE in my degree!

Yes. I think you will need to have studied it though to some sort of qualification although I knew people who did it with a sociology degree. You wont be taught the subject but how to teach it.

I had to show the units that I had done for them to see how it tied in with the national curriculum even though my degree was in religious studies.

I think you'll need to top up your qualifications. When I did my PGCE (not in RE) they were looking for 50% of your degree to be relevant.

What is your degree in?

allgonebellyup · 05/04/2008 18:57

My degree is in English/Lit!!

But ive been told that places on the English PGCE are very hard to get on to due to all the competition..plus now English isnt seen as a shortage subject so training pay has gone down to 6k which i cant afford to live off, plus competition for jobs is apparently quite fierce.

Do kids have to take RE as a GCSE now??

the uni i hope to apply to (brighton) states that some students can take extra modules before the pgce...but i would still need more than this wouldnt i?

I think so. And in my last school, with 1600 pupils there was 1 RE teacher. Well, two, but one worked part time and one taught psychology as well, so 1 fte.

If i call the uni about the course will they think i am nuts?

Shouldn't think so. If you look at the prospectus there'll probably be a contact point for the course. They certainly won't think you're nuts if you use them.
