10 month old hates naps

She's never been a good napper (but at least she sleeps through the night). She usually has two 30 min naps a day but recently she's only been having one 30 min nap in the morning and screams when it's time for her afternoon nap. She's clearly very tired, but won't nap. I take her out of her cot and she plays for a bit and looks sleepy, but then she screams again when I try to put her down for a nap. She also never naps in the pram.

Anyone else in a similar situation?

our baby GC does 30 min naps - takes an hour to get him to nap

Mine stopped napping at 11 months.

I'm guessing 30 minutes isn't enough so by the time nap 2 comes around they're overtired.

Is there anything you can do to extend the nap? Eg, the wake to sleep method? Or contact napping?

@DistinguishedSocialCommentator Yes it takes her a while to fall asleep too!
@MotherFeministWoman no naps at all??
@spicysamosahotcupoftea I haven't heard about the wake to sleep method. She won't contact nap.

30 minutes doesn’t seem long enough for a nap. My two year old is still getting 2.5 hours minimum a day. The wake to sleep method is a good shout.

Or I wonder if you could keep her awake til midday then hope she just has one longer nap after lunch perhaps?

Is her bedtime routine for naps the same as her night? A friends baby never napped for long but when they started putting her bedtime sleeping bag on her for naps; she slept longer.

MotherFeministWoman · 27/05/2024 13:35

No no naps at all, she just wouldn't. I made spaces in the day that were conducive to napping if she wanted to and then just put her to bed at six

Have a little Google. It's basically to reset their sleep cycle in the hope they will sleep longer.

If you can get the first nap to last longer I'm pretty sure you'll see a difference.

If she doesn't contact nap, could you lie with her? When mine wakes too early I pretend to still be asleep and she nods back off

@MalibuBarbieDreamHouse yes I put her in her sleep bag but she resists her afternoon nap.

@spicysamosahotcupoftea I will read up on the wake to sleep method. I tried pretending to sleep when she wakes up from her first (and often only) nap, but she just screams. I'm not sure if it's normal for a baby to only have one nap a day.
