6yo needs glasses

So obviously he will be getting them, we’re choosing the frames next week. But he’s quite upset about it, thinks he’ll look “ridiculous” in them (despite the fact that I wear them and I don’t think he thinks I look ridiculous…).

Any tips to make acceptance easier? And to help my emotions - which I’m obviously trying not to show. As a lifelong wearer, they are obviously less comfortable, convenient and (subjective) attractive than not wearing them. I need glasses and DH doesn’t so also a little dose of guilt…

And yes, I KNOW I’m being silly… but that’s not helping right now.

I told my friend's son he was very handsom with glasses and said we were going on a 'glasses only sumpertrip'. I wear glasses.
His mum and dd2 could join - if they wore sunglasses.

He laughed a lot. And we went.

Glasses are so cool!
Let him have free rein over choices, and make a big deal of how smart he looks.

Does he have any friends who wear glasses?

Would he respond well to glasses wearing characters like Harry Potter?

That’s the plan - we already had a look today but didn’t buy frames yet, to let the idea settle in. There are two other children in his year that need them, so he’s not the first… I guess it’s just a big change, and lifelong (which he asked me about and wasn’t happy to hear the answer). Thanks for the support / ideas, was expecting to be torn apart for being vain / having a first world problem etc.
