I've just read something where someone is saying they have started giving their 10 year old son privacy in his room as he has started masturbating etc...??? My son is 9 and I thought all that was years away, is this how early they start now?

I don't think it is neccesarily a 'modern' thing to be starting at 10, but yes, from what I have heard its not uncommon at all.

How does the mother know what is going on though?

ChocolateRockingHorse · 04/04/2008 22:15

Actually I understand that this is uncommon in boys to start puberty as young as ten. Girls yes (although still early but classed as "normal" but not boys)

She's walked in on him a few times apparantly lol

Surely that would be enough to put him off for a while?......ok, maybe not..

I have a 10 year old girl and 12 yr old boy and they seem to be hitting puberty together.
DS's teacher last year seemed to think he was a bit more advanced than most of the other boys as his voice was beginning to crack. He has had a big growth spurt but he hasn't got any hair under his arms yet.
Certainly haven't caught him doing anything yet, but he is getting a bit shy and now doesn't like changing in front of us.
