Feed baby every 3 hours?

I'm so lost.. I see everyone doing different things. I'm a first time mum and I'm starting to get confused..

My son is 10 months old and I still feed him every 3 hours.. is that the normal?

Not really, is he eating solids yet?

Sprogonthetyne · 20/05/2024 16:40

Is that all milk feeds or including meals/snacks. I fed on demand, so never had a schedule but by 10 months mine were eating more solids and taking less milk

A baby that age definitely doesn't need feeding every three hours. Most are well on the weaning journey at this age so 3 small meals a day I can't remember in oz what a baby needs in actual milk around that time my youngest is 15 months currently and down to two x 6oz milk at a push (she's cmpa so not the biggest fan of Soy milk)

That seems like a lot. Is he eating regular meals? He might be filling up on milk and not want to eat much proper food.

I remember we dropped the mid-morning bottle around 11 months as that was when mine started nursery, so I didn't need to send so many bottles. So I think by then he just had one mid-afternoon and one evening, before nap and bed?

At 10 months I was doing:
Bf when waking, around 6.30
Breakfast about 8
Bf about 11
Lunch about 12
Bf about 3 after nap
Dinner about 5
Bf before bed about 7.

About 11 months I swapped the mid-morning bf for a snack. At 12 months swapped the mid-afternoon one for cow's milk (usually a babychino, good excuse for being out to get good coffee for myself).

Breastfed or bottle?
My DD was bf and she loved it more for comfort than anything else so probably did feed just as much at that age. She still had 3 meals/snacks.

It depends if you mean solid food or milk feeds? Breast or formula feeding?
By 10 months he should be eating 3 solid meals a day but still with some milk feeds, maybe 3 a day? But if BF on demand feeding every 3h if he wants it and is still taking solid food too is fine

Yes, they definitely still eat something every 3 hours at that age, but it's not milk feeds. It will be a mix of milk and solid food.
