Hot dog on nursery menu

Am I being unreasonable for thinking that hot dogs shouldn’t be on my DS’s nursery menu?

DS is 25 months and has been in nursery since he was 18 months. Recently, he has moved up into the toddler room where one day on their menu timetable they serve hot dogs - whole and in a bun.

From my knowledge appropriate food for toddlers and going down a Google rabbit hole, children should not be given hot dogs until 4 years old minimum due to them being such a choking hazard. Or, if they have them they should be cut lengthways and never given whole or cut into eg. £1 size pieces Therefore I am confused and alarmed to see whole hot dogs on my 2 year old’s menu.

Would anyone else have a problem with this? I don’t want to be “that mum” who says DS can’t have them if this a common item on nursery menus.

He's 2yrs not 25 months

Toddlers are aged in months because there are huge differences between, say, 25 months and 35 months in terms of development.

Ham, sausages, hot dogs, etc. Lots of people don't eat processed meats. Can't see what is so shocking about the PP's comment.

Its a hot dog once a week not a hog roast.

He’s both.

I've not got any children young enough to be at nursery anymore , but I certainly think two years old is far too young for any form of any processed food . They need to learn the real taste of food .
Maybe some form of ham would be better , than a hotdog .

A school I used to work at did “hotdogs” in the menu, but they were just normal sausages in buns. Having said that, I wouldn’t let my 2 year old eat it.

It says hotdogs but I'd put money on them being just sausages in a roll. They'd also be cut into toddler appropriate bites, usually, like you said length ways. There's no sense getting worried when you could just ask one of the staff.

YABU to describe him as 25 months.

I used to serve lunch in a nursery and we cut all sausages length ways. Also our hot dog sausages weren't the factory processed things you get out a jar they were just a normal link sausage. All nursery meals had to meet the nutritional guidelines and include vegetables.
