Do you have any photos of you with a bump? I think there are also some "sex education" books suitable for this age, which might have a diagram of the baby growing happily inside - she might believe a book, even if she doesn't seem to be getting your explanations.

Have you actually tried explaining a very simplified version of the birds and the bees to her. Can you show her photos of you pregnant with her and then her as a newborn etc.

I'd try something like: Babies grow in their mummy's tummy, but not in the place where the food you eat goes. There is a special, safe place inside their mummy where the baby can grow until it's ready to be born. They don't get there by being eaten, they come from an egg which is already inside the mummy's tummy.

I would emphasise and repeat the bits about it not being the place where the food goes, and the baby not being eaten as often as I could, and then answer any other questions she asks.

There are a couple of links on Amazon which show pictures - www.amazon.co.uk/Before-Were-Born-Jennifer-Davis/dp/0761112006/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=120724 0259&sr=1-1 and www.amazon.co.uk/gp/reader/0746025025/ref=sib_dp_pt#reader-page both show happy babies inside their mums.

SmugColditz · 07/04/2008 01:12

Is it very inappropriate to say that this is screamingly funny?

chipmonkey · 07/04/2008 01:25

Definitely one to remind her of when she's older!
