Hello!

Post here if you have 2 or more kids under 3yrs.

We were formerly the 2 under 2 thread, but some inconsiderate DCs went and had birthdays.

Commence rambling / ranting / updates etc

Hi girls - quick review of the day before I go to bed.

Bad bits:

Left DS and DD in the lounge whilst I made lunch. DS does his pain cry which quickly escalates into a scream, I come running to find him curled up in a ball face down on the carpet whilst DD rides him like a pony. DS crayoning behind the curtain, a nice big patch of black that takes a good 10 minues scrubbing with a babywipe to remove.

Good bits:

Made a batch of mini muffins with DD whilst DS sat in the high chair and played with kitchen stuff. DS cruised between the sofa and the coffee table. Went to local toddler group, kids well behaved and had a good natter to my friends.

Jewels&Gems - what training pants seem to be doing the trick?

Katy1 - enjoy the glass of red. Things got easier for me once the little one started on solids and had less milk feeds both day and night.

Loopy - sorry about the funeral, never nice to have to go to, whatever the circumstance.

ChaCha - how is your sciatica? Do you have a disc problem that causes it? I had mine fixed in January, glad to share info if you need any.

Got to go, need sleep before the nightshift starts.

DD = 2 and a half
DS = 8 months

Jewelsandgems · 24/04/2008 08:27

Katy1, well I am taking her this Monday so have not actually been yet. Will let you know how it goes and what kind of things are included.

gill I am using the Bright Bots training pants. They come in fun bright colours and have a good pant-like fit. I got them from kiddicare.com who offer a discount for multi-buy so worked out a good deal.

We had an excellent night last night, Izzy slept soundly and woke at 6am. And she was all smily and chunky-thighed. She keeps staring at her hands now, and moving her tiny fingers.

As I write this it has just started to rain. Well, I won't be hanging any washing out AGAIN!!

GrrrlInterrupted · 24/04/2008 11:49

katy1- but they are delicious! I actually hate offal, but i love pate and faggots

Hope everyone's days ok. DS1 at CMs today, DS2 asleep in pushchair. There's a chilli in the slow cooker, and i've hurridly wiped over the kitchen and bathroom. Desperately need to hoover, but will wait until DS2 has woken up. My parents are supposed to visit later Don't see them much.

DS2 stayed in his cot until about 1am, so he has to stay there until at least 1.30am tonight.

Have to face it: ds simply doesn't sleep very well. Not even in our bed (he now kicks and scratches in his sleep ), except when both me and dp have got up... . Think we might have to move out of our own room...

Had a good day at playgroup, although DD is whiny (with a cold, I think) and DS is moany (with the same cold, probably). ...Must start doing some serious organising for DD's birthday.

Cazwa - I don't think it's true to say that I'm doing 'smart' at work... More, just about acceptably neat-ish with no visible sick stains (I hope!)

littleducks · 24/04/2008 17:34

hiya everyone, so much to keep up with!

dh offered me a lift to mother and toddlers this morning as he had stayed in for engineer to come and said engineer was just finishing so i waited missing bus i needed to catch. Then engineer had prob so dh couldnt leave and we ended up missing m and t, was upset as i had been looking forward to adult convo with someone other than dh. Both my kids have been waking at 5.20, it was 6 which was tough but this is absolutely unbearable. They do resettle but i think i need to get blackouts, dds rrom has a blind but the sun creep round the edges so may have to back curtains also.

tumble tots for whoever mentioned it dd has been going for a year almost, she started when she could walk and loved it, the stickers and songs especially but is getting tad bored as she cant go up a class until she is two (next month). It is really overpriced though here membership plus £5 something for a 45 min session. I am planning on sending her to playgroup one day a week for the same price (two hours) but am worried about leaving her alone.

Chaotica · 24/04/2008 20:58

for you yesterday, Loopy. I hope you had a better day making cake today. (Still haven't made DD's, although I bought some fancy icing stuff for it...)

And it's a pity you didn't make it to the M&T group, littleducks. I miss adult conversation as well (although it's going to be better now I'm at work again). You'll have to make do with talking to us, I s'pose .

I signed DD up for tumbletots but it's full in our area so she's not been yet. DS is probably almost old enough (although he's not mobile enough, I don't think -- have to see how it goes).

My two are (near as damn it): DD 2, DS 7m

Jewelsandgems · 24/04/2008 22:05

I agree that tumbletots does seem expensive but there doesn;t seem to be much else in my area. Saying that, we are new here so hopefully I may find something else instead of/as well as.

I have been meal planning with my Annabelle Karmel books received off Amazon the other day. And I am not much in the kitchen but feel rather inspired by how many different child-friendly meal ideas there are! So, have been going through the book, and planned 7 evening meals starting Saturday and we shall see how it goes. DD1 used to be good with her eating, but not so anymore. (also, I find it very hard work planning our evening meals for the whole week but this book has made that part easy-peasy!)

Will let you know how it goes.....very spiffingly I am sure

am desperate to get out but dd keeps whining for me to pick her up, when there was no baby to go in her buggy she always wanted to walk have order a p and t sport so hopefully things will improve when that arrives (and bless my mum for giving me the money for it as my xmas present). dd only wanted to sit in the back seat in mothercare though and told the salesman as i put in my pin "its no nice pushchair, i DONT like it" so it could go either way!

went to stay at mils the other night and forgot the moses basket we were all ready to leave when ds suddenly was sopping wet so his nappy must have leaked so complete change or clothes and quick wash down, then bf to settle him as he hatyes being naked, then dd had dirty nappy so change that just to hear ds filling his clean nappy, that took an hour! and in the rush following we totally forgot the basket. i remembered on the motorway and poor baby had to stay in pushchair in her living room as there was nowhere safe for him! he slept with me but i was terrified all night as i keep mistaking him for dd when half asaleep and am scarewd i might chuck him to the other side of the bed as i do her!

Chaotica · 25/04/2008 18:26

You sound very organised, Jewels. I usually don't decide what I'm cooking until the pan is on the cooker (although I do like cooking). DD is good at coming up with suggestions now though (not always 'cake'...)

Have been bad shouty mummy due to a headache this morning and my plans to walk it off were cut short when DD was suddenly sick, so I decided we should go to the local park instead... DD then (of course) moaned that she wanted to go to the woods, the slide in the park was covered in broken glass . Even though I met a nice couple who also had 2 under 2 (and who helped clean the slide off) it still wasn't really safe for DD to play for long so I was really annoyed. Still am. I don't think DD really noticed, but even so...

Trying to make DD's birthday cake when she won't nap, without her asking 'what you doing, mummy?' I suppose I could always lie... (cunning )

katyt1 · 25/04/2008 20:35

meal planning - what's that then? ordering off chinese menu!
i'm rubbish in the kitchen generally.

chaotica - sounds like a bad day. did you get the cake made?

littleducks - my p&t is brill, hope your new one arrives soon.
i would've been so peed off with dh re the life thing
could've been worse, you could've forgotten ds

loopy - same could be said for you! did dd mind swimming in her underwear?!

jewels - v organised planner! the tumbletots classes that ds1 could go to are on the days he goes to nursery so no good really. does look good on the website tho.

ok here, tired, fat, frumpy, nothing new there then!
signed up for a 13mile walk in july will have to get on with more long walks to get fit.
think i need the kick up the ar*e to get going.

Loopy - hope your theme park plan works. Sounds like a good idea to me, although it might fail.

I think DD is enjoying her birthday. But i must finish the cake before she finishes her nap... It bears a passing resemblence to a train... sort-of... with the lights turned low... ...and sunglasses on

Hello everyone

Littleducks my P&T is also great and DD1 sits happily in the front and loves her elevated position. Though mine is not the swish new Sport (of the even swisher new Vibe) but my E3 does the job so far.

Loopy love your veg box idea and have thought of that myself. I did 2 dishes from the cookbooks tonight. One was Vegetable Rissoles and the other Chicken Satay. I must say, there was a moment in the middle when the kitchen was a mess and I was having serious doubts at the eatinesss of my rissole mixture. But, once cooked, both dishes were very nice! I did realise the art of preparation (I was unprepared for all the peeling and grating) so next time will hopefully be in less of tizzy. But, as to answer your question Loopy, I am so far very impressed and I;m sure you could improv dishes to contain the veg you have....?

Went and bought some clothes today. I recommend it Katy1!! Bought some lovely chiffon ditsy floral tops from topshop (that can be worn over long sleeved top, or just bare for summer - and that are not clingy in the tummy area and enhance boob area) and also a skirt that sits on the hips (no muffin top!!) and a gorgeous dress from Coast (Sssssh! DH does NOT know about the dress!!) and there is some really nice stuff in Warehouse too - go tomorrow!

Also bought DD1 a little hot pink belted trench coat from Ted Baker Girl and a little babygrow with matching hat for DD2, so she does not feel left out

katyt1 · 26/04/2008 20:51

Loopy - sounds like your plan worked then our boiler has a mind of it's own too hope yours is sorted soon.

chaotica - i read it as you had to finish EATING the cake sure dd will love it regardless but i know you want things to be perfect. maybe take a pic and put on profile so we can all reassure you?
Reminds me i must get thinking about ds's cake, was thinking of a train too, how impossible is it???

jewels - thanks, shopping does sound fab, might have to think about it. maybe during nursery days next week. think my mistake is going to cheap shops (primark, asda, etc.) and these clothes aren't necessarily flattering plus they often shrink in the wash so end up too tight topshop should be ok and not out of budget either. and a skirt, ooh that might make me feel better
tho no coast here, which is prob a good thing for my bank account
girls clothes sound cute too.

my p&t is an old e3 too, someone parked their shiny new one next to mine at toddler group, even my buggy feels frumpy now!

oh ds2 slept through last night, hooray! (7-6)

ds1 23mo ds2 3mo

THEY BOTH SLEPT THROUGH LAST NIGHT!!! First time ever. I didnt need my afternoon nap and am still up now.

HALLELUJAH
HALLELUJAH
HALLELUJAH

Im still going to bed early as chances are it wont happen again tonight.

Hi to all and sundry, sorry this is a flying visit.

GrrrlInterrupted · 28/04/2008 07:00

ooh cazwa!

taking them both to my Gran's on the bus today. not much else to report.

drove to FILs yesterday for them to see the kids for an hour- i drove us, takes about 30mins. DH said he'd give me between 6 / 8 out of 10, it wasn't too bad. Thinking of perhaps allowing FIL and step MIL to watch the boys while i drive to supermarket and back on a Sunday, as it's been 2mths since we let them babysit, and DH and i think maybe it's time to give them a chance- anyone from our old thread may remember the problems we had with how they looked after the kids.

starting the Special K diet today, to lose my last stone cheaply and without much thought needed. fingers crossed- sick of feeling like a dumpling!

GrrrlInterrupted · 28/04/2008 07:05

oh, and we found a childminder too

Chaotica · 28/04/2008 16:00

too, Cazwa!

Good to hear you're driving about, Grrrl. And about the CM. I've found it makes so much difference taking two of them (DS just hasn't been so stressed -- he barely realises I've gone until I turn up at the door to pick him up, at which point he bursts into tears like he's been tricked , but for him in the day though)

DD loved her birthday, and even the cake which sort of looked like a train (but only sort of)... We asked her what it looked like and she said, in a typical 2 year old way, like we were stupid: "cake!" (She stuck to this answer despite further interrogation... ) LOL, katyt1 at the idea of putting a picture of it on my profile so you can lol too (but, weirdly the pictures didn't look too bad .

katyt1 · 28/04/2008 18:14

Well i must have had some of the mummy mojo today:

boys up and dressed, waved off dh
went to card making shop for supplies (got there too early so had a walk, watched some builders/fork lift drivers/etc)
then to library for storyrhymes - first time, think ds1 enjoyed it, liked being 'free' in a library and taking books off shelves anyway
then home, lunch, and both boys asleep
nap for me, sort out of photos & stuff, laundry on line, etc
boys up, supermarket trip
tea
play
now it's tv, bath, bedtime, hooray

have found that ds2 will sleep brilliantly in the p&t regardless of walking, so pop him in there after a feed and off he'll go for hours! long my it last...

chaotica - sounds like cake worked then!
grrl - well done on finding CM. hope PILs do work out ok, could be a much needed break for you and dh. hope diet works....
cazwa - can i second that - THEY BOTH SLEPT THRPUGH LAST NIGHT!!
pk ds2 up at 5.30 but that counts as morning here sometimes!
loopy - i have slings too don't use them as much as i should.

GrrrlInterrupted · 28/04/2008 20:49

oh loopy, there's so much wrong with PIL!

Repeatedly giving DS1 tea to drink against my wishes.

Bringing DS1 home from their house with loads of poo on his clothes- HIS poo, which they knew was there, but didn't think was much

And i came home to find step MIL forcing a bottle into DS2s mouth to keep him quiet so she could watch the rugby. He was whimpering with milk going over his face

There's more, but i'd start ranting. Anyway, they haven't had either of them for 2 months, and we thought we'd give them the chance to have them for 1 hour with strict instructions, and see what happens. They're on very thin ice.

Had an ok day. Am fricking starving though!
