Does anyone else have a tiny 21 month old? My son weighs 9.8kg was under the dietician for a while for slow weight gain but he settled on his own curve and they were happy with that however I look at him and can’t help but worry as he’s so skinny

How tall is he and what percentile? I have a very light almost 4 year old but she is following her curve, height is on the small side but not too far off others and she eats a lot so I’m not worried. I would be more concerned if he was very short for his age too.

He’s in the 25th centile for height (well he was the last time he was measured) and just on the line for 9th centile in weight however I think he’s dropped a little now.

My DD is 3 next month and looks like an 18 month old, we had to have quarterly weight checks up until she turned 2. No medical reason was found for her smallness, her height wasn't even on the chart, she's so dinky but is a happy, healthy little girl, full of energy, no other concerns and meeting all milestones so our doctor said just wait and see.

Did they do any tests etc? My little boy is the same , full of energy , doing everything he should be for his age

I know it's difficult but it really doesn't sound like you have anything to worry about. Mine is also around 9th centile - I think he's absolutely fine til I see him next to others his age and realise how dinky he is. Paediatrician just said "there's nothing wrong with small". Both mine have been slow growers. I tend to be terribly anxious about it til they settle on solids and I can see the food going in. The other thing I like to do is work out how many babies per year in the UK are as small or smaller than mine. At 9th centile that's around 54500 babies! Can't be too worrying!

DD is just gone 4 but has always been on the 9th centile as well and is only 14kg now. She's almost 50th for height though so does look slim.

She goes from eating reasonably well to being a bit fussy. However she's very happy and super energetic. Sleeps well. Is doing well in school etc. I understand it's hard not to worry I have nearly worried myself to death over her weight and eating habits x

My ds was born at 35 weeks. Take home weight was 4 12... He was 6 before he was on age appropriate sized clothes. Still a skinny rake.

Those centiles sound perfectly normal - he's still heavier than 10% kids his age!

My son is 9th for height and 2nd for weight - he's noticeably smaller than most of the kids in his years but still perfectly healthy and within normal ranges, someone's got to be the smallest

My daughter is 0.4 - this is actually tiny rather than just a bit petite and they do monitor her growth

My DC1 is like this. About to turn 6 and the same. Not a good eater but always been like this and is growing ok so the healthcare professionals aren't concerned.

My daughter is 1st for height 25th for weight. As long as there are two percentiles between height and weight it's classed as normal and anything above 0.4th percentile is classed as normal.

She's nearly 4 and in 1.5-2yo clothes and size 5.5 shoes. We are just in the process of trying to find school uniforms small enough for her!
