A long night ahead with a vomitorium 3yo

So my 3yo who rarely gets ill has picked up a stomach bug, probably from baby sibling who had it last weekend, but the 3yo is much worse and has been sick 4 times between 430pm-11pm. Gone to sleep now, I'm having a sleepover on 3yo bedroom floor just in case. The favourite teddy got caught in the crossfire and we're already running low on clean bed sheets!

DH is in our room with the baby (who is in the cot) but will likely wake up around 130 for their usual breastfeed from me so DH and I will tag and switch places then.

DH says he's also not feeling great.

I'm in for a long night, aren't I? 😫

At what point should I hugely worry and take 3yo to see medical practitioner? How many pukes, e.g.?

We’ve all been through it. Stay strong, this too will pass.

Poor you op. It’s always really grim this sort of thing.

Hopefully your 3 year old will be feeling much better tomorrow.

Here’s the NHS advice:

Scroll right down to see lists about “what to do when” in the case of young dc, in particular if dehydration sets in.

Good luck! I remember giving my dc tiny sips of boiled water every 15 minutes to keep them hydrated and it’s surprising how much you can get down them that way.

Hope you get some sleep anyway!

Poor you OP.

Follow the link as per PP.

Watch for signs of dehydration especially has we've had hotter weather.

Using a calpol syringe give 5ml fluids every 5 mins when awake. As PP said it is surprising how much this helps.

Urgh stomach bugs with young kids are awful. Hope it's over soon.

DramaAlpaca · 11/05/2024 00:37

Oh no, poor you. As others have said, try to get fluid into the three year old. Hang on in there.

SoftPillowAllNight · 11/05/2024 00:42

On the bright side it does pass really quickly. My kids have never gone beyond 3-4 pukes. And once they sleep they don't wake up. But be careful if you get it, it will be much much worse. The last time I got the sickness bug from my 2 kids I was Mega unwell compared to them. 24 hours of crazy puking even waking up from sleep. Keep your hands & bathroom clean.

Fed the baby so now that one is back to sleep, 3yo hasn't woken again so that's good I think?! I've been scrubbing my hands whenever I get the chance since I got home from work

Thanks for the link @Blinkeredsoul34 !

I'm just awake now and can't seem to sleep even though I have a window of opportunity. Typical!

Same boat here but with a 13 year old. Both ends since 8pm. DH is sick at the thought of someone else being sick so is no use. However it’s so bad that I’ve been heaving myself 🤢 Thanks to some incredible twist of fate my mum is staying for the weekend and has been an absolutely legend helping out. I’m meant to be up in 5 hours to go to a 40th day out but am seriously concerned I’m going to succumb while far from home. Wishing you a peaceful and puke free rest of the night OP!

Must be going around, had a great day out yesterday with our 3 toddlers and today 2 temps and sick and our teens have just woken to be sick

Tryingtoconceivenumber2 · 11/05/2024 07:39

4 year old had it last weekend. Same as pp said, once asleep she slept the whole night. First sickness bug got us as well x
