Dresses for a Baby Girl - What Age/Stage is Best?

I’d like to buy a dress for my new baby niece but have so far only had boys myself and am clueless. What age/stage is best for dresses? I’m hearing they’re annoying when they start crawling as can get in the way but that they’re not great for newborns either. Should I go for 3-6 months? 6-9 months? Something else?

2-3. Get another cute comfy sensible outfit instead.

I have a new baby girl and am not really a fan of dresses on her yet (5months-ish) but I love rompers and feel you get a good amount of wear out of them as legs out in the summer but can wear with tights or little cardigans when it gets cooler... I was gifted some beautiful dresses that she only got to wear once as they grow so much in those initial months so if you have your heart set on buying a little dress I would def go for a bigger size and think about seasonally when it will be worn... hope this helps xx

Agreed. The only sweet spot where dresses are at all practical is between learning to walk and potty training.

I've only just started putting my girl in them and she's 26 months. She had them for special occasions as a younger baby but they're so annoying for crawling/climbing and she would get so frustrated. Even now she only wears above the knee for those reasons.

So yeah 2-3 I'd say would be ideal

I have put my girls in a dress for special occasions when they were babies, pre-crawling. But it is a bit of a waste as it really doesn’t get worn much. You are right that once they start crawling and learning to walk then a dress just gets in the way. I would say mine started wearing dresses more often from about 1.5 years.
