Am I the only one who DOESN'T fold baby clothes?

This may horrify some of you, but does anyone else NOT fold baby clothes? Our dd's chest of drawers are just full of jumbled outfits and clothes. We did fold at the beginning but we end up messing it all up anyway when getting stuff out of the drawers in a rush etc.

Precious time spent folding could actually be spent doing tidying elsewhere or spending more time with 1 year old dd. We work full time and we are tired! My mother came to stay and gasped when she saw the state of dd's clothing storage situation. Her bedroom is otherwise lovely and neat. But my mum was shocked at the clothes stuffed in each drawer! We are attentive and caring parents in my opinion so if this is one of our main flaws then so be it! This will have to change when dd gets a bit older, however. I fold my own clothes (most of the time...)

So, am I the only person who doesn't fold or neatly store baby clothes?

I roll them and put them in the drawer; so say if it’s leggings and a top I roll them together. Then I put the rolls in the drawer next to each other and you can easily see what each outfit is. I’d recommend!

Please dinner be a product of laziness. Food the clothes straight from dry to prevent creases!

Welshfiver · 05/05/2024 17:11

No, don't fold them, just divide into tops and bottoms.
I sometimes don't find the time to fold my own clothes!

I couldn't do this. It'd drive me mad when trying to look for something! But no judgement from me, totally get why you don't fold. Each to their own

Porridgeislife · 05/05/2024 17:15

We have labelled plastic baskets in her wardrobe: vests, sleepsuits, socks, tops, bottoms. Everything gets placed in there unfolded. Only cardigans and nice outfits get hung up. Life is too short to fold vests.

I do this too! Also if my husband goes to dress him then there is an outfit already matched for him, so the poor child doesn't end up wearing black, navy and brown at the same time 🤦‍♀️

I've never folded clothing in my life unless it was going into storage, not even my own. I just hang it all up. It's what my family did growing up, I had no idea people folded clothes until I moved out!

If I were keeping clothes in drawers, I'd have to have different drawers for different clothes types at least.

Springadorable · 05/05/2024 17:40

No folding here! My little ones have two drawers each - one for outfits, and one for pjs/socks/underwear. Everything just gets lobbed in.

I could not put things away unfolded. Here tea towels are ironed and dusters are folded and put in the cupboard with the folds facing outwards.

Toastiecroissant · 05/05/2024 18:02

I don’t even fold my own clothes, I’m not doing thousands of bits of baby clothes.
the drawers are divided (tops, bottoms, leggings etc) but they’re just chucked into the correct sections.

But how do you find the time!

PJs, socks etc in drawers, all other clothing hung in the wardrobe all ironed.

Wow. ... What a fucking waste of time....

Not a single person will be at your funeral going "wasn't it amazing how she always ironed tea towels??".

All our drawers are chaos. I’ll do a biannual sort out and fold everything but within days it’s chaos again. The rest of my life is extremely organised - I am not a chaotic person at all, it’s just my drawers!

ProfessorPeppy · 05/05/2024 19:09

Back in the mists of time, humans wore animal skins to keep warm, otherwise they died from exposure. Fast forward a few thousand years and now that we’re no longer dying from exposure, we’ve invented pointless things like irons and folding baby clothes because we’ve got nothing better to do with our limited time on earth.

user1497787065 · 05/05/2024 19:20

I'm happy to make the time as that's what I like to do. I watch very little TV, spend little time on social media and keeping everything tidy and organised is important and yes, when my DC were young I ironed vests and baby-grows.

Superscientist · 05/05/2024 20:10

I fold so they stand up which means I can see everything in the drawer. I try to keep them near but it doesn't always stay that way. We fit a lot more in the drawer doing it like this
We also have a basket on top of her drawers which is for clean but unfolded clothes. These are mostly rejected clothes when getting my daughter dressed or clothes I haven't had chance to fold from the washing. So we do try to have everything folded but we also have a clean but not sorted basket for when life gets on top. For us this is a good balance of ideal scenario and what is realistic!

bakewellbride · 05/05/2024 20:15

Everything folded neatly into labelled baskets in drawers here. Occasionally dh shoves an unfolded vest in a random drawer for a laugh because he knows it'll set me off!

Pattothecatto · 05/05/2024 20:17

I don’t organise things within an inch of my life- but I have dividers and things are rolled? Takes as much effort has shoving them in?

surely you’d end up faffing about looking for what you need, so no time saved?

Mammma91 · 05/05/2024 20:32

I’m currently picking outfits out the clean washing basket, for baby .. toddler me and DP. We do have other clothes .. just not the ones I want! One day I’ll have a nice empty washing basket, but that’s not today.

ImpishOrAdmirable · 05/05/2024 20:35

Thrown in drawers, not folded or ironed. DCs are now 22 and 20 and don’t seem to traumatised by their slovenly upbringing.

Newsenmum · 05/05/2024 20:36

Oh god I had no idea people folded these! Mine are all thrown in different sections.

Crunchingleaf · 05/05/2024 20:38

I did fold at beginning but who has time for that shit. We are a family of 5 with two toddlers I have enough jobs to do. I do have some drawer organisers from Ikea though so it’s not complete chaos.

BlossomValley · 05/05/2024 20:38

Wow you learn something new every day. I had no idea so many people wouldn’t fold clothes! It wouldn’t occur to me not to and I couldn’t cope with the mess otherwise.

KatherineRS · 05/05/2024 20:46

Can I ask, when people say they ‘couldn’t cope’ what is meant by that? What would happen/what would they feel? Genuinely interested.
