Buggy Question

Don't know if this is the correct place to post this but here goes:

I have a toddler (16 months) and am expecting in September. I was wondering if I could get away without buying a double buggy? I have a very good one at the minute and DS is already looking to get out of it after a few mins....

Am i mad to even consider this or have any of you gotten around to using your buggy with a wheel board or a sling in the early days. feedback would be much appreciated.

DS was 2 and 3 mths and I used a sling then a buggy when dc4 arrived. Dble buggy would have been pointless, altho there were a few days of baby in sling, ds in buggy. Heavy work..

I have 18 months between my first two and couldn't have done without a double buggy TBH, at 18 months DD1 was too much of a runner, used a sling a few times but DD2 was a big heavy baby and it's hard one in sling and pushing a buggy as well.

You could either get a cheap one off ebay or something or myabe use a buggy board for a bit.

I am getting a double with 2 1/2 yo DD2 and a newborn though, I prefer them strapped in.

Similar to sweetkitty. When you're out and about with one child you can use both hands and your full attention to "control" him/her. Being out with two can be quite a different experience. Of course, some people manage just fine - but I suspect their LOs are somewhat better behaved than mine! I also continued to use it for much longer than I originally anticipated.

You could research a little now, but then just wait and see how you get on when the baby arrives. Only takes a day or two to buy a pram or have it delivered.

Also consider the weather thing, September is going into the Winter (well especially here in Scotland) and it rains a lot. I would prefer the two of them warm and dry under a raincover than a toddler getting rained on IYSWIM. They can get soaked on even the shortest journey, I know from experience.

I CANNOT live with my double. Times I have needed it have been when:

• walking somewhere I can't risk toddler ds running off like near a busy road
• I need to get on with it and not walk at toddler pace
• I need to get a strut on to get dd to sleep (she likes brisk motion!)
• I need to stop to talk to someone/choose things in a shop and can't have ds running off.
• getting us all on and off buses.

I have used alternatives, such as baby in a sling, but there are times like when you want baby to sleep after you've arrived at toddler group when you can't go without.

There are 19 months between my two. I have a Phil&Teds Expensive, but the ultimate for close age siblings. It works brilliantly as a single, and the cocoon is the best carrycot ever invented for a newborn. DD loved it and would sleep anywhere in it.

There is 23 months between my 2 youngest and I wouldn't be without my Phil and Teds it is the best double buggy I have had. I have 8 children and have had a few different double buggys over the years but the phil and teds is the best by far. The cocoon is fantastic my baby just loves it!
