He doesn’t run to the playground we have to like show him things if this makes sense? Hes never liked swings. Does like the slide. But I feel a few we’ve been too are a bit old for him for example the slide at our local park is up a big climbing frame which is definitely for older kids?

and soft play we like show him what to do but now he wants to go in the big area so we have to keep him away from that haha!

he is in nursery so does play alongside kids (I asked his key person they said at this age it’s playing alongside not together)

but is it normal he’s more of an observer than player at these places?

is it older ages where they get excited for the playground area of the park/ soft plays and know what they are

Of course it is normal.
There are all sorts of children, all sorts of toddlers, and all sorts of adults.

In my local park there will be some adults going for a stroll, some running, some sitting on benches, some sitting on the grass (well, in Summer), some kicking a ball round with dc, some leaning against a tree having a smoke, and of course, lots that didn't even go to the park.

It's the same with dc - some are full of energy and enthusiasm, some are more measured, some are cautious, some it will depend on their mood on the day.

In my family, dc1 was gung ho - ran at everything. No sense of danger.
dc2 was always much more measured - would view what was going on first, weighing up the options.
Both perfectly normal, just different approaches.

My eldest girl was similar at that age, she approached the playground timidly and loved to watch the big kids on the swings rather than go on them herself. By 4, she was more confident and would always end up with someone to play with at the park and I used to just sit back and watch her… then her little sister came along… she was just under 15 months when she watched someone do the fireman’s pole and tried to dive off it after them!! Head first down the slide… we are always on alert at the park now!

:) yeah he doesn’t run at anything like that it’s like he needs to watch first then figure it out!’
his cousin who’s got 2 older siblings is diff but mainly watches them

He does like to run and walk everywhere I stupidly worried he didn’t enjoy kids things as like I say he watches then uses playground / soft play
