Camp America Medical Form Help

Can anyone give me suggestions on how my DD can get the medical form for working at American summer camp completed. We live South West England out in the sticks and our GP does not offer this service. There is one place in our nearest city, which isn't very near, which will do the medical at a cost of £150!
DD has to go to London for her appointment at American Embassy soon, does anybody know of a private GP/ health centre who could do it while she's in London. Apparently it only takes 10 minutes to complete!
Any suggestions welcome Smile

I dunno whether you'll get something much cheaper than that — I wouldn't be surprised at £150. Private doctors can charge hundreds per hour, and you're also paying for the fact they're taking on professional liability for the assessment and their medical judgement on the form. I hope you do find somewhere that can do it for less in London, but I'd be unsurprised if you find that level of charges wherever you look TBH.

The annoying thing is we know of people in other parts of the country who have had their medical through their own GP for a nominal fee of about £50

I agree that £150 is going to be about what it costs, in most places. London might be more

Our GP filled out my dd's for £35. Are you sure they won't do it ? I thought they had to do things like this.
It did cause us some anxiety though as they seem to need all these forms returning asap. Our GP was away and took a couple of weeks to get the form done. My dd has had her embassy appointment a couple of weeks ago which fortunately all went smoothly.
Would a private GP not need access to her NHS records etc or would they just complete it based on her recalling her medical history ?

Mannikin · 27/04/2024 19:48

GPs definitely don’t have to do things like this - it’s private and not a part of the contract they have with the NHS. Honestly I don’t think £150 is that bad - they are taking on a fair bit of risk saying she’s medically fit to do this and I’d bet the indemnity insurance they’ll need to have to do this is pretty expensive!

Aah ok , Guess we were lucky that GP agreed to do it then. My dd has never had any medical issues but I guess may not be as straightforward for others.

bruffin · 27/04/2024 20:06

When DD did it , GP receptionist insisted that she would need a full medical and it would cost £150 , but i said we just needed the form filled in and signed. She huffed and tutted and said she would see what the GP would say, i cant remember how much they charged for that.
The GP filled in the form , its just tick boxes about vaccinations etc.
Our only issue was i never took DD to the GP when she had chicken pox and the form required proof of CP vaccination or proof of CP.
I was ringing clinics round london for titre tests for proof she had CP the week before she was supposed to fly out!
SHe went back the next year and thankfully didnt need to do the medical forms again.

I wouldnt mind but she has a very obvious chicken pox scar on ther face!

Did she forge a Gp signature then ? that would be a seriously stupid thing to do anything which could invalidate medical insurance especially somewhere like the US.

my God, how stupid could you possibly be!

Grumpyat40 · 27/04/2024 22:46

No forgery. Made up a name - they don't/didn't check.

You can bet your life they'd check if there was an accident!

Thanks everyone for suggestions. I've had a closer look at the form and it is only tick boxes and a signature that is needed, no examination at all! We're happy to pay, but £150 to tick a few boxes seems wrong!

But how can a doctor other than your own certify about vaccinations, your medical history etc? Surely any other doctor is just relying on what you tell them. A private doctor in London won't have access to your medical records.

I agree, as i said above, even our GP couldnt tick the chicken pox box, because i hadnt taken her to the GP.

NAmum83 · 16/05/2025 15:56

Very easy for camp America medicals the doctor has to review your medical records and immunisations.

You can simply request a copy of your medical records and immunisation history from.your gp surgery. Its available free of charge. Take this document with you to the appointment this way It's no different than seeing your own GP. The Just Health doctors also work in the NHS and are GMC registered. Appointments are available every week. They have locations nationwide. Professional service.
