Hi, it's my son's 5th birthday in May and it's the first year that I've been stumped as to what to get him! He's had a big year, starting school and overcoming a few social issues so we want to make it extra special. We wondered about the Yoto or a Kindle fire kids but neither jumped out at us (worried that once we start screens that will be the beginning of the end, am I wrong here?) Has anyone got any real goodies? Things has that he loves already: magnatiles, marble run, brio, his bike and scooter, Lego (he often gets this from family members), he's less into role play. Thank you for any ideas, big and small!

Scaletrix was a huge hit with my 4 year old. Otherwise, an upgraded bike/scooter?

Giant Jenga or magna tiles for building.
Moshi monsters.
Remote control car one that can be used outside.

We have Yoto players and I think they're fantastic. Both my children like them (aged 7 and 3). There's loads of great content. If you want to get an idea of the content you could download the Yoto app (you don't need to own a Yoto player to use the app) and listen to the podcasts - Yoto daily is great - and the sample content. The cards are pretty good value especially if you sign up for the Yoto club for a few months. You can also make your own cards using blank cards and your own audio content (eg from CDs or MP3s).

There is a new model of the Yoto mini coming on sale on Monday and it's definitely worth buying IMO. The minis are super portable.
