Help me figure out this rash…

So it’s a long one….

My 9 year old DD started with a rash on the 2nd April. At first it looked lacy/mottled & would come & go. No other symptoms she is completely well no high temps etc. A few days later her cheeks were glowing again on & off through out the day. A couple of kids in her class had slapped cheek so I put it down to that. However 3 & half weeks on & the rash is still there! The cheeks seems to have settled but the rash is still there on her Arms & thighs mainly. The rash is completely smooth, not raised & doesn’t itch. Not bothering her in the slightest but worrying me as to what it could be! It changes appearance daily sometimes it’s quite faint & mottled looking other times it’s really red & blotchy and hot to touch. We’ve seen the GP twice who admitted he doesn’t no what it is but thinks viral (although she hasn’t been ill) GP wants to wait & if still there in 2 weeks will refer to dermatologist. I should say the rash tends to be worse when she’s hot, showering etc. we’re going on holiday in 3 weeks to a hot country & it’s starting to stress me out! So anyone recognise this rash……

My child had a rash like that and it lasted on and off for about 8 months (sorry). It would get worse when she had a hot shower. One day it just disappeared and never came back.

To add we had all sorts of tests done and nothing came back.

8 months 😳 that is a long time! I mean if I knew for certain it was nothing I’d be fine, but I am a worrier and do tend to think the worse! The GP did say aslong as no other symptoms not to worry but then I think it must be something! Concerned how itl be when she’s in the hot sun.

I have this on my arms and thighs. One one leg it goes from mid thigh to waist. I believe it's just the net of blood vessels under the surface of the skin which can be more obvious in some people. It's more obvious in heat and showers. I have never had any negatives with it. I never have bare legs for other reasons so I'm not bothered by the aesthetics

Did you ever figure out what this rash was and has it gone away. Currently experiencing exactly the same thing with my 5 year old!

Hi yes the consultant at the hospital said it was definitely slapped cheek & that some children get the body rash worse than others. It disappeared completely after about 6-7 weeks!

Thank you so much for your reply! I did wonder if that is what it was or some other sort of viral rash. Think we will leave it for another week and see if it goes before going to doctors.

No problem I hope your little one is ok. My DD wasn’t bothered by it at all but I was really concerned at the time!
