DS born 2nd centile - experiences with a tiny baby?

DS was born at the weekend full term 39 weeks weighing only 5lb 13oz, putting him on the 2nd centile. This was only picked up at growth scans a couple of weeks ago and I honestly thought the measurements were going to be off!

Has anyone got experience of this and has their DC caught up of remained small? Did it cause problems in future pregnancies or for your DC?

My eldest was 5lb 3 at birth, same centile as your little one. Aside from the fact that he slept loads and would only feed for a few minutes at a time there were no health issues or worries.
He is now a very slim 20 year old.
All my subsequent pregnancies I had multiple growth scans and all my children were born at similar weights.
They couldn't see any problems with the placenta, and no other reasons for their low birth weights other than maybe genetics as all my siblings and me were small at birth, all around the 5lb and a bit mark.
Please don't worry about your little one.
Congratulations!

Can I ask, were you under pressure to induce your subsequent small babies or did the doctors just accept that you have small but healthy babies and let the pregnancies progress naturally?

Im pregnant with my second and wondering what to expect this time round.

My son was born at just under 5 pounds at 38 weeks - he's six foot now 😄

There was no pressure although in my third pregnancy the midwife forgot to book my additional scans and I didn't remind them so did get told off by the consultant at around 36 weeks!
I have 5 children, additional scans in all of them but by baby number 3 they kind of accepted that I just had small babies.

That weight is small but I wouldn't be worrying. All adults are different sizes, same with babies - we're all different.

1st son was delivered at 34w at 3lb 5 and wasn't even on the chart - he's nearly 4 now and caught up.

2nd son was born at 38w and was 7lb 9

DD was 5lb 7 at birth- undetected IUGR and 0.5th centile. I am almost 6ft. She stayed small until about 4 and then rapidly caught up and at 10 is now fulfilling her genetic potential and is really tall.

It did take her a week to get the hang of bf, supplemented with formula and then transitioned to exclusively bf quite quickly.

I had 2 weekly scans towards the end of the next pregnancy- no issues and second baby was normal weight.
