Baby growls/heaves

i have a 3 month old and she’s definitely enjoying making some new noises! She’s recently learned to scream and squeal and we know this is her just trying out her vocal chords.

But there’s one noise that does make me worry. It’s the noise you’d make if you were to exaggerate living up something heavy, or maybe even going for a no. 2! 😂 a sort of “arghhhhhhhhhh” or “hnnnnnnhhhhhhh”. She does this when on her back, maybe trying to fart but also on her kick and play piano. I’ve seen her clench her fists when doing it too. I worry that she’s frustrated or uncomfortable: above usual levels.

She has always been a grunter and has had a tough time relaxing for the toilet, to the extent the osteo has said she’s got a stiff back. So I’m assuming this is just a development of her grunting, as this is so exaggerated and long now.

I’ve found threads about growling but none really describe the noise like I have! So, is my baby stressed or is this just another sound she’s learned?

I think it's probably just her trying out different sounds which is a really good thing.

If you're worried you can have a look to see what her speech and language milestones are in the 4 month Ages & Stages Wink
