moving house & school -leaving party/presents etc

We're moving in 3 weeks. Ds 8, 7 & 4

I said they could have a leaving party (horrors) any ideas, given I'm knackered heavily pg and hate kids (only slightly joking)

also quandary about presents for teachers.

I should get ds teachers and cm thank you present, right? One problem - ds2's 2 teachers have been amazing and wonderful and I'm genuinely very grateful to them. More than happy to get them a present - bottle wine? Other ideas?

Ds1's teachers otoh, I am really pissed off with. I feel they really let him & me down, have had countless problems with them. Glad to see the back of. So, how do I handle it re gifts? Def don't want to get them bottle of wine. mor like a dog turd. DOn't want to look petty by giving 1 & not t'other. But ds2 teachers been FAB, ds1's teachers been evil. SO - what to do?

And apart from giving (2 of the 4) teachers bottle wine, and leaving party, any other suggestions for getting 3 kids mentally ready for move, and settled into new place?

Ta

Why don't you take digital photos of them all at the party (in the forest, hunting for stones and building dens) and then give them a CD with the pics on at the end of the afternoon? That way they get a memory of the party and of your dss too.

at how horrible teacher has been to your dss. Poor things! She doesn't deserve a present. (Give her a stone left over from the treasure hunt )

I wouldn't give that teacher any kind of present. Can't think of any presents for the boys with an English theme really other than wine gums or something if they'd like those. Think I'd give them all one of those little Playmobil packages (with one figure in them) for just under 2 Euros each I think, pirates, knights etc.

Wanted to belatedly say thank you for the party tips - we went to the woods on Saturday and had a great time, building a fire, cooking sausages on sticks etc. I put 3 pictures if you feel like a peep.

Pleased to hear it went well, very brave of you to pull it through! Hope the rest of the move goes smoothly, I'm stressed about finding a flat or house to rent already and we've got ages. Starting to think a quick move with no time to think or do anything is better, get it all over with!

ernest · 16/04/2008 09:57

absolutely, that's one reason we moved the date from August to April, but the accompanying stress is no fun. And our house is very very unsold

ANd I want to murder ds1 teacher (again). Am I allowed, now I'm leaving? Very glad I didn't get her a persent.

You started looking yet? You visited Hamburg yet?

Like your moving in party idea, but really don't think I'd be brave enough - too terrified no one would come. Not to mention - KIDS

Oh yes, go and give her a piece of your mind before you leave, you'll feel much better.

No we haven't been to Hannover (not Hamburg!) yet because there aren't any places to rent being offered for August so I can't do anything - have to wait another month atleast. I've been good though, I've marked all the decent schools on a map of the city in areas we would like to live so I can sound as if I know what I'm talking about when I contact the agents (dh has agreed to go through an agent so they'll do the searching and offer us places to look at)

The moving in party is really something I did for my dc because they're so shy and won't just go out and join in with other dc - your dc might go and get to know the new neighbours anyway!
