Or just mine? My 11 week old sleeps perfectly in the car once its driving but if shes not tired you would hear her screams from china. Is this normal or should i look for new seat?

Normal, both mine were like this

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 19/04/2024 16:55

I had one that would only go to sleep if put in a car seat and driven on the motorway.

UnravellingTheWorld · 19/04/2024 16:55

Definitely normal IME. I have good news for you though - around 9 or 10 months we did a total 180 and now he loves it. At 2.5 we've managed 4 hour drives with ease. He asks to go out in the car.

Mine hated the rear facing seat but was ok once turned around which I did asap. I know rear facing are safer but I had to weigh it up against the impact of the screaming on my concentration.

Not all, but its not uncommon. Do they start straight away?

CelesteCunningham · 19/04/2024 20:08

Very common although not much fun. My eldest was like this, when the youngest liked the car from the off it was a revelation. Now she's older we know she gets a little bit travel sick so that was probably why. It improved as she got older and then the step changes were moving to the next seat at a year - still rear facing but it was obviously more comfy - and then turning to face forwards when she was about 2.

My son was fine, then hated it, until I realised that it was the newborn insert. Once I removed it he was fine again. I think he'd outgrown it and was being squished 😅

allfurcoatnoknickers · 19/04/2024 20:12

DD HATED hers. She would scream like she was being murdered the whole time she was in it when she was tiny. She's almost 1 now, and tolerates it, but she still doesn't like it.

My older DS gets carsick in about 5 minutes, so we can basically never, ever leave the city and move somewhere car dependent 😂. As it stands, lucikly we rarely have to out them in a car, and it's always a nightmare when we do.

InTheRainOnATrain · 19/04/2024 20:15

Both of mine hated it whilst rear facing, fine as soon as they turned forward

RagzRebooted · 19/04/2024 20:16

DS1 and DS2 were great in the car. Loved their car seats.
Then I had DD. She cried all the way home from the hospital and pretty much every car trip and supermarket trolley ride for months.

PigeonPigPie · 19/04/2024 20:17

Have you had a fit check? My son cried and cried then I realised I hadn't adjusted it to accommodate for his growth and he was squashed
Was fine once it was adjusted

Blue2020 · 19/04/2024 20:27

Yes my ds was like this until 14/15 weeks old. He would cry or sleep and there was no in between.

We were using a cosatto car seat, we then changed to a cybex Aton and he did suddenly stop crying at that point ~15 weeks. We do think it was developmental though, because a month later we used the cosatto again in dh’ car and he was fine in that too.

Since 14/15 weeks he became fine at travelling, either stared a bit or just fell asleep. He’s now 1 and he’s the same as that now too.

caringcarer · 19/04/2024 21:11

My DD loved hers. When she cried a lot for no apparent reason DH used to put her into her car seat and drive her about and she'd fall asleep in 10 mins. Then we'd wait a further 10 mins before transferring her into her cot.
