cleaning 1yo teeth at bedtime???

DS is 13mo and has a bottle of milk at bedtime, after which we clean his teeth, wash face, story then sleep...at least that's what we aim to do! - In practice, what's starting to happen, is he's starting to fall asleep on the bottle again and some nights we haven't managed to clean his teeth.

I know it's as simple as altering his routine, so that he gets the bottle earlier in the routine, but the problem is he isn't ready for the bottle any earlier and won't finish it! - anybody managed to overcome this, how do you get your baby to stay awake for cleaning teeth, without waking him up again too much??? (can you guess he's always been a poor sleeper?) TIA

I had this problem with DS for a long time - basically in the end we just did teeth before bottle. He is 5 now and the dentist says his teeth are fab, so it evidently didn't do any lasting harm.

I brush my DS's teeth before he has his bottle. I know that in an ideal world, he would have his bottle before but it makes him fall asleep.

oh thanks so much both, only just managed to get back on and check this, that's what we actually did tonight as he's so zonked at bedtime, we used to get sleepy signs, but now everything is so interesting he's into everything, then suddenly just starts getting upset and shutting his eyes! I'd read that there is some lasting protection from the toothpaste after a clean, so can't be all bad. - And I'm sure I didn't have my teeth cleaned until I was 18mo or so, and I've still only got 1 filling at 36
