Anyone else doing a Diploma in Preschool Practice?

Title says is all really. I'm stuck indoors on a lovely sunny day working on my assignment for Core Unit One when there are so many other things I would rather be doing (including my ironing!) JUst wondered if anyone else was doing the same?

gawd you must be bored if you thinking of doing the ironing!!!

KateF · 31/03/2008 15:29

I have done it Panda-I feel your pain!

PandaG · 31/03/2008 15:49

bored, not exactly, quite enjoying using my brain again tbh, but knowing there is so much else I need to be getting on with too. Oh well, my DC are at my parents for a few days to give me a chance to focus

problem for me is there is a 3500 word limit, and I can see myself far exceeding it and then having to cut down. Is annoying as I am trying to be thorough and do a really good job. I have a degree and a teaching qualification, is just a shame that they are not transferable into the preschool setting.

I am trying to keep focused - I did well not having a quick check in here until after lunchtime! Having a quick chat here is keeping me sane!

The planning assignment is the worst for the word count, it's virtually impossible. Are you wading through all the theorists atm? I kept getting sidetracked by interesting theories! I did mine a couple of years ago and had a newborn at the time i did Unit 1 - it was hard

MegGriffin · 31/03/2008 21:06

I finished mine last December so I know the feeling also. So many things to do, so many distractions. Having said that I really enjoyed the course and I am glad I did it. Good luck

PandaG · 01/04/2008 19:45

have done quite a bit of research in the theorists, so have got a good idea about which theories I will include. Don't tell me the other assignments are worse for word count, I know I am going to have ot trim this one!

THanks for your good wishes Meg...I am really enjoying the course too, it would be good to be able to do the course and learn the stuf without having to do the writing though!

I work in a sessional pre-school with 3 and 4 yos, what about you?

PandaG, with a degree already were you not tempted to go for Early years professional status?

KateF · 02/04/2008 21:40

I work in a pre-school too, with children from 2 and a half to four. I must be mad but I'm considering doing an Early Years degree. had got a bit disillusioned and decided I didn't want to but have rediscovered my enthusiasm again. I like this age group but couldn't do school age.

I am 8 weeks away from the end of the Foundation Degree in Early Years and it is seriously the best thing I have ever done, even though it has taken over my life for the last two years! I would say go for it if you are determined.

KateF · 02/04/2008 22:07

have you done it through distance learning or at a university Lazylou?

PandaG · 03/04/2008 15:06

Early years professional status wasn't suggested to me when I started the job...maybe I should have gone down that route. My boss is doing an Early Years degree, 2 nights a week at Uni.

Well done Lazylou, hope you really enjoyy hte last few weeks of study.

I've just got the last section of my assignment to do, am leaving that until after the weekend as I have a study day on Tuesday. THen I'll email it to my tutor for comments!

I have to say I did really enjoy doing my DPP and now I am starting to miss my studies so I may start another course. I have thought about doing the Foundation degree in Early Years. I found the DPP really relevant to my job in a pre-school and I am a more confident practitioner because of this. Enjoy your weekend Panda and keep in touch. Well done Lazylou, I bet you feel brilliant knowing you are so close to finishing.
