Does this look infected ? The yellow stuff under the dry cord that’s about to fall off ? And it’s a bit red on skin at top?

not sure whether it’s normal or not ?

thanks in advance x

Looks normal to me, almost ready to drop off. You can bathe it gently with warm salt water on cotton wool.

Hi
this is what my baby’s looked like. Does it smell? If not I would say it’s fine but just keep an eye on it.

Don't bathe it it's not far off coming off and is all normal looking. Once it's off then bathe gently until then unless you've been told infected leave alone for quicker healing oh and congrats

Looks ok ok ne. Remember, it basically rots and drops off... so it does look/smell pretty awful sometimes.

If you're concerned make sure plenty of air is getting to it so it can dry out.

The yellowness is fine. but it looks to me like it's red above the umbilicus? Is that the case when you actually look? That could be a periumbilical flare, which can be a sign of infection. But very hard to tell on a photo.

I agree it looks ok. I remember thinking DD1's must be infected as it looked horrible! They do go a bit gross.

I'd probably keep an eye on the redness to make sure it doesn't spread - just compare it to these pictures in the morning.

Olivia933 · 12/04/2024 22:28

Yes it is red at the top, which was what concerned me x

Yeah, I'd have a low threshold for getting it checked out. Cords are manky things, and yellow gunkyness doesn't bother me at all unless there's a smell. But surrounding redness does, probably because I've seen a few babies who had progressed to a nasty cellulitis of the abdominal wall. It may well be fine, but really can't say it's fine just from those pictures.
