Only 1 tooth at 12 months

Just looking for some reassurance and real life stories 🙏🏼

DC is 12 months old. First tooth started coming through at 6 months, which was a surprise as I didn't get any teeth until +12 months. We were hopeful they'd have normal tooth development.

DC is now 12.5 months, the first tooth is fully through, but there is no sign of any further teeth.

I've spoken to my dentist and a family member who is a dentist, both say is within the realms of normal and delayed teeth is almost always hereditary, but I still fell anxious about it. Especially when all DC's little pals are onto their fourth or more tooth by now.

Has anyone else had a child with just one tooth for an extended period of time?

Dc2 didn’t have a single tooth until about 14 months old, and then the rest literally came almost overnight at about 17 months.

Looking at my baby teething chart that my mum helpfully kept, I didn't get the bottom two until 15/17 months, and the top two until 18 & 20 months, so think DC is in for a long wait!!

Dc1 didn't have any teeth at 12 months old. The (daft) health visitor said she had never heard of a one year old without teeth and I panicked, until I searched mumsnet later and read about lots of other toothless babies who grew into children with normal teeth.

Dc2 didn't get their first tooth till 14 months old but I didn't worry about it.

Both were good eaters despite the lack of teeth. They are both getting adult teeth through now and are also late with that.

I think late teething is an advantage because tooth cleaning can be a battle in babies and toddlers.

Same here, DS1 didn't have any teeth at 1 year.

My son didn't get his first tooth until 17 months. Dentist wasn't concerned. They came through very quickly after that.

I know an almost 10 month old with no teeth yet. It varies a lot really.

DS got two at 7m, then nothing until 12m when his top two have just started to come through.

Thank you all for sharing your experiences. I think it's the solo tooth that worries me most, so odd to just have one for coming up 7 months

I wouldn’t worry at all! My daughter got her first tooth at about 13 months and then didn’t get any more for ages! She is 2.5 and has them all now’s the great thing is as she was older I thought she handled teething pains really well- and could also communicate that her gums were hurting so it made things much easier.
dont worry!

My dc were "late" getting teeth, but they held on to them for ages too. My 9.5yr old has just lost their 5th tooth. Some of my nieces/nephews had lost more than that by age 6-7

My DD got her first tooth on her first birthday. The rest took ages to come through. At 15 she had a full set of teeth Grin
