3 week old, dried blood around belly button

My newborn's cord dropped off after around a week post birth. This morning when changing her, I noticed a small amount of dried blood around her belly button. Definitely wasn't there late last night, and can't say for certain if it was there when I changed her a few hours ago.

She seems completely fine.

I'm thinking it's from where her belly has rubbed up against mine when I've been burping her? We did a bit of tummy time throughout the night, so it could've been that too.

Is this fairly common for newborns?

I'm taking her to paediatrics for an appointment this afternoon, so will ask the doctor about it.

Not sure whether to get her checked ASAP though. My instinct is telling me she's fine (feeding / sleeping well, usual amount of wriggling about to get rid of gas)... but you never know.

It sounds quite normal to me, after the cord drops off it has to heal up. Just keep it clean.

Totally normal

Thanks for the replies!

Just got back from the hospital appointment. Asked the midwife to take a look, and they told me it's completely normal and that it was more than likely caused by rubbing from the nappy over her belly button.

Keep it clean with warm water and pat dry. 😊
