Nutramigen

Hey

My 11 week old son has been prescribed Nutramigen formula to see if he has a milk allergy as his poo suddenly started to smell like vinegar/sour.

The problem is, he won't drink it! It smells like dry dog food?? He had a few sips and started crying and will not eat it at all. He also threw it up! I'm worried as he needs to eat so I caved in and gave him the Kendamil as I wanted him to eat as he was hungry. When he had the kendamil he gulped it down and fell asleep!

Has anyone else's baby had Nitramigen? If so, how did they adapt to it, were there any side effects? Did you notice a difference and when did it start to work?

I will persist with the Nutramigen to see if it is a cow allergy but it's just horrible seeing them cry from hunger!

Xx

Add a little vanilla extract. Then gradually reduce it. Midwife advised me this and it worked

We used it. It is vile I agree. Perhaps gradually change 1oz to 5oz of Kendamill? I recall that's how I did it. Watch his teeth in the future if still on Nutramigen. Not certain it's linked but we had trouble when they were older. CMPA is a total scourge.

My DD is 12 now. She was on nutramigen as a baby with CMPA. I always thought it smelled awful, but she was almost instantly much more settled and happy in general following the switch. No side effects.

My baby didn't like it either. And I agree it does smell like dry dog food. I could hardly stand the smell making up a bottle.
It made my ds really dozy as well. I had already been starting to cut out dairy so thankfully he wasn't on it long before we could ebf again
I'd ask for it to be changed to Kendamill if you can

scaredofff · 11/04/2024 01:14

Sorry I have baby brain. I read Kendamill in your post and wrote it. Came back to say I meant Aptamil Pepti 1

Vanilla essence or maple syrup was recommended to us. Good luck with it, it's such a shame these formulas are so revolting.

It really is awful.

but when I smell it now, I instantly get warm fuzzy feelings and think about cuddling my nephew.
