2nd/9th percentile babies?

Hi all, my DD is nearly 11 months and since about 6 weeks she's hovered between the 2nd and 9th percentile. She was born at just over the 9th at 5lb15.

I worry about her all the time, my older DD was 8lb2 and never struggled.
DD2 is in clothes sizes 1-2 sizes behind!

Anyone else have/had a small baby?

Yes, I had a small baby (was also around 2nd/9th centile and nearly classed as failure to thrive as took 26 days to regain her birth weight). She's 11 now and not the tallest in her year, but certainly taller than nearly all her friends and perfectly healthy.

Thank you so much to everyone who's replied.

Yes I think you're right I do need to gain some perspective, I think I am comparing her too much for my older DD who was on the larger side.

She isn't a big milk drinker either and her growth is slow so I guess I'm not used to having a baby like this, also DH and I are taller than average so we just weren't expecting it tbh, but, she is very sweet and content, meeting her milestones and seems very happy so I guess I should stop worrying.

Also a PP is right, line up a group of healthy adults and they're all different sizes.

I guess some people just some follow the same pattern and that's normal too!

My DD was born 3lb 9oz (36 weeks). Still dinky at almost 4, but she’s feisty! Plus her clothes last a lot longer!

DD2 is 2nd centile, about to turn 3 and just into 18-24 month clothes. She's much more physically able than her more typical sized older sister was at that age though! She's great at sporty things. Someone has to be 2nd centile. I was small up to secondary school then shot up.

My baby was born at 34w and 3lbs, he was on 2nd for a long time but soon caught up. He's tall and thin now at nearly 4.

One way to look at it is all adults are different shapes and sizes, kids are no different.

24 years ago I had a little one like you, she followed 2nd centile until puberty. Shes now 5’6 but still with petite features. Perfectly healthy.
Enjoy her, we’re all different.

My first DS was exactky like that. Born at 9, dropped to 2, hovered between the 2 until i stopped measuring him. They used to constantly go on about failure to thrive, try and get me to top up with formula etc. He's now a 5 foot 8, 19y old at uni, sporty, stocky, stroppy :) He was always short as a kid, think he was second shortest all the way through primary. Now slightly shorter than most of his mates, but nothing really noticeable.

I'm under 5ft, his dad is 5ft 11. He just took after me. Younger brothers are taller. As long as she is alert and hitting milestones she'll just be dinky, domt worry!
