13 m/o just chucks her food and doesn’t eat jt

My 13 m/o DD used to be a fantastic eater and would eat whatever DH and I had, was happy to pick up her own food and eat it by hand or to be fed with a spoon/fork. Over the last three weeks or so mealtimes have become really difficult. She often gets upset if we try to feed her and will just turn away or get really agitated, so we give her the food to eat herself.

She now just pulls her food apart (if it’s a sandwich/wrap etc), or will mush it in her hands, and 9 times out of 10 will just throw it on the floor. The only things she will eat and not chuck are very plain foods like crackers or plain bits of bread, sometimes plain pastas, and the squeezy yogurt pouches she can hold herself.

It’s really unlike her and foods she used to love (like scrambled egg, chicken and noodles, ham sandwiches) She doesn’t seem to like or want anymore.

I’m at a bit of a loss for what to do because I feel like she’s barely eating anything and just throws most of her food away. Is this just a phase or has anyone had similar experience?

Sounds like she just wants to be a bit more independent. I stopped my son from throwing food on the floor by staying calm, saying 'food stays on the table', put it back the once and then if he threw it again I said along the lines of OK lunchtimes over. It didn't last long him throwing food. The recommendation is that you put something that you know they'll eat along with other foods.

I found and still find my son eating very emotive. It sounds very normal what your child is doing :)
