When to be concerned about my child's sleep

Hi, my son is almost 5 and he has never slept well.

He's coming up 5 and every single night it's taking at least an hour of screaming/crying going to bed, says he can't lie still, every excuse under the sun to not even go upstairs.

He's probably not going to sleep until 8:30 most nights and awake again by 5:30am so absolutely not getting enough sleep which is affecting his behaviour. It's heartbreaking listening to how unhappy he is every single night.

We've tried everything. It's getting to a point where it's affecting my marriage because it is so difficult to get him to bed and his behaviour during the day is so bad that we are both just completely exhausted.

I have some feelings he may have ADHD. I've mentioned this before to the Drs/HV and it's been sort of shut down. Has anyone got any experience with ADHD/sleep issues and how did you go about getting an assessment?

Thanks in advance x
