when they dont want to go on a play date

Ds9 says he doesn't want to go out with his friend and their family for the day. He says he doesn't fancy the trip.

He was going to tell them that I wouldn't let him go which I said wasn't on.What excuse can he make without offending them.

I've often used - ds already has someone coming over or something else planned which he had forgotten about (family stuff for example like a visiting granny).
It is hard though isn't it, not wanting to teach them to tell lies etc. I suppose he could always tell the truth and say that he just doesn't feel like going off for the day.
