12 month old grinding teeth

Hi, my ds has just turned 1. From about a month ago he started occasionally grinding his teeth. He’s now stepped that up to quite a bit.

Is this just a phase he needs to go through? Until all his teeth are through?

He got his two bottom teeth at 7 months, and his top two are just coming through now at 12 months. I couldn’t even see the top two when he started grinding them, I’m sure he grinded them when the gum was still there, which might have eased the pain or made it quicker breaking through.

He uses teething toys, muslins, toys, food. Then he also just grinds them too.

My DS (13 months) does this quite often OP, less so recently but between 10-12 months it was every day. He had 8 teeth by 10 months and the sound of the teeth grinding is awful, but I was reassured it is very likely to ease the pain of teething

Eeeee hate it when then do that. I think it's quite common when they're teething.

If it continues for a long time/is constant you could ask a dentist about it but im sure I've read most kids grow out of it.

It’s good to hear that it’s common. I will just hope that as more teeth come through he does it less often. He has a dentist appointment in ~4 months time so I can ask them for advice.

Hi @Blue2020 my son has just started grinding his teeth turned one on Friday, does it eventually stop?

Blue2020 · 19/09/2024 17:26

@Mumof3bb1 yes it does, I think it stopped about 3-4 more weeks after I posted this - once his teeth were fully through. He is now 17 months old and just got his four molars through and the grinding did not return.

Good luck and hopefully it’s just a short phase for him.
