8 week old sleeping

My 8 week old still sleeps all the time, is this normal? Awake for bottle, sometimes falls asleep drivnking it and lights out again for hours. Don't get me wrong she is getting more awake, an hour max the odd time. Sleeps threw 8-9 hours at night; I think would sleep 24/7 if I let her.

Not a braggy post AT ALL the anxiety it causes me is not normal. I need someone to say their baby was the same? It's not something I can find online it's all about the bad sleepers.

My son was like this, loved his milk and slept a lot :)

Tblock1800 · 02/04/2024 20:06

Our 3 month old girl sleeps completely through the night and has done since 6 weeks old :)

SouthLondonMum22 · 02/04/2024 20:08

Mine slept 12 hours at night from 8 weeks. I did wake him at certain times during the day but it's definitely normal for some babies to be sleepy.

@H2023 @Tblock1800 @SouthLondonMum22

Thanks everyone: that makes me feel better. She's still not taking a big lot of milk 15-20oz a day, do you remember what yours were taking at this stage?

Roughly 3am/ 8am/ 1pm/ 6pm the odd time 11/12pm 4oz each should I wake more in the day?

@Tblock1800 what times does she sleep through?

This one will have her last bottle around 6, I would love her to take another before bed but she won't.

My 8 week old is exactly like this. EXACTLY. Sleeping upto 20 hrs in 24. And taking 15-20 oz a day. I have been searching internet up and down this past week, but found no reassurance whether it's normal or not. I am a first time mom as well so no idea how to go about this. Seeing experiences of others here gives me some peace of mind.
My baby is on combination feed but mostly formula. How about yours?

Mary7241 · 02/04/2024 23:05

Mines just waking up at about 17 weeks!

Last feed 8.30. Drinks pretty much whole bottle 5 ounces. Wakes up roughly 7.30 am. Our little 2.5 year boy exactly same sleep pattern. Got a right great routine at the moment

IHateLegDay · 02/04/2024 23:47

It can be absolutely normal for some babies but if you're worried, speak to your health visitor or GP xx

Kirstylvsya · 03/04/2024 00:48

@Tamaa formula. Yes I've scrolled endlessly and couldn't find a thing. HV's have continually told me it's normal but until I speak to those who are similar I can't find reassurance. This thread has helped me massively!

@Mary7241 wow! Little sleepy head 😀

@Tblock1800 amazing, that's brilliant, typically my little one just took 4oz here at 12.30 which she dosnt normally, that should see us threw to the morning, I can enjoy it more when I know she's a full belly!

I would attempt to wake more during the day and see how baby goes eating every 3-4 hours.

Have a look at wake windows and see if it can help with rough sleep times.

But honestly, if baby is gaining weight and you’re happy with the current routine. That’s fine too.

@Tamaa is your wee one still the same? The anxiety this causes me, health visitors are out next week for another weight check and it's making me very unwell. I tried to do a "dream feed" last night and she had a little bit the girl won't eat if she dosnt want to!

Kirstylvsya · 10/04/2024 09:48

@SouthLondonMum22 this is the thing, health visitors are keeping an eye on her weight, I don't think she's gaining as much as she should, but was born big due to diabeties so part of me things she's getting to where she was genetically ment to be.

She won't eat if she dosnt want it & wont wake pleasantly if I try wake her 🤣 the stress!

Yes, continuing the same. I can totally relate to the anxiety. My LO was born low for birth weight and still continuing just at 2nd centile on the growth chart. And yes, would never take if sleepy. I have a weight check booked in for next week as well.

Kirstylvsya · 18/04/2024 09:29

10 weeks 2 days now and getting more alert, awake for maybe an hour sometimes slightly more when woke for a bottle, I am gently wakening her every 3-4 hours through the day and we are averaging 20oz a day now, but still a sleepy head loves her sleep. Weight check later with health visitors.

I’m so glad I found this thread, how did things develop with your little one(s)?

LambriniBobInIsleworthISeesYa · 13/01/2025 01:22

DD2 was like this for her first six months. She had to be woke even to feed a lot of the time.

My theory is that she was sleeping to avoid DD1 who at that time was a lot. She sang the songs from Frozen almost constantly and when she wasn't doing that she was making us have elaborate tea parties with her roughly eight thousand soft toys. These tea parties always involved her being Queen Elsa and singing the songs of Frozen before using her ice powers to freeze our tea. Her other favourite game was "hairdressers" where she would use many hundreds of bobbles to give me the kind of 'do that would get you locked up for crimes against hair in many jurisdictions. Then we would break from our play for an hour or so to watch Frozen and for her to reject any meals that I made for her. Sometimes, for a treat, we could watch one of the Minions films and once we watched Zootopia, but I laughed several times making it clear that I liked it, so we could never have it on again... she only liked films and TV shows which made me want to kill myself.

So yes, the TL:DR there is that some babies are just sleepy and like sleeping, even ones who don't have psychotic 22 month olds living with them. Please try not to worry @Kirstylvsya .... soon she will be awake and refusing her naps and making you watch awful films and giving you terrible hairstyles and you'll look back on these days with nostalgia. Promise.

Kirstylvsya · 13/01/2025 06:46

@LambriniBobInIsleworthISeesYa hehe love your reply! She's nearly 1 now and very much awake
