Pointing with whole hand

Does anyone else’s toddler do this? DS is 12 months and has been pointing to things for a few weeks now, but always with an open hand, not one finger.

Took mine ages to point at all. I would say it's too early to be concerned about it. Some point with whole hand, some point with middle finger, some with index, and all learn to point at different stages.

I'd just focus on sharing his attention when he points at things and point at things yourself. He'll pick it up. Pointing at pictures in books is helpful as it's up close so he will see you pointing with your finger.

It's easier with an open hand and if it does the job why bother doing it with one finger?!

It's highly unlikely he'll still be pointing like this at 18.

Mime pointed with her whole hand prob started around 13 months or so, can't remember when she went to pointing with a finger, not for months I don't think. Now at 2, she says "no, no, no" and wags a pointy finger lol

Sorry I just realised I never responded to the comments here! Just to update (in case anyone finds this) DS has in the last couple of days started clearly pointing with his index finger at 13 months.
