My chihuahuas often carry their food into the living room from their bowl and eat it piece by piece I noticed my chihuahua bringing a mouthful of kibble in I picked it up and put it back in the bowl and put closed the baby gate to stop them from bringing anymore in I obviously must’ve missed something because then I noticed my baby chewing something put my finger in her mouth and it was a piece of kibble unsure if she ate any it was royal canin chihuahua kibble and it had been in my dogs mouth prior as that’s the only way kibble ends up in the living room is by them carrying it in they are weirdos who won’t eat from the bowl Is my baby going to be ok? She’s almost 11m

Dog food must be safe for human consumption so it won't contain anything toxic etc.

Mostly the initial taste tastes for new dog foods during development, are done by humans.

Manyandyoucanwalkover · 30/03/2024 11:34

If she’s actually swallowed any, it will only be a tiny piece. It won’t do her any harm. I’m assuming your dogs are wormed regularly?

Kids put all sorts of things in their mouths 🤮 it’s perfectly normal. she will be fine!

She’s not the first and she won’t be the last.

She will be fine!

That's very interesting! I didn't know that.

She’ll be fine. Bonios were my biscuit of choice as a toddler, used to swipe them from the dog’s dish. This was in the 60s when condemned meat was used in pet foods.

I had lovely, shiny hair and often a wet nose 😁

Backwoods57 · 30/03/2024 11:43

My 18month old is always doing this, its fine don't worry about it.

FictionalCharacter · 30/03/2024 11:44

Yep, kids do things like this! She’ll probably eat much worse than this in the future! There’s no issue with the dog food - it’s food, it doesn’t contain anything harmful. A tiny bit of dog spit is highly unlikely to be a problem if the dogs are healthy. Even if they had an infection it’s highly unlikely she’ll catch anything from a brief exposure to the spit in her mouth.

You must have had teeth of granite 😂

Don't worry, your baby will be absolutely fine. As a pp said, dog food is designed to be safe if ingested by humans. If she grows up to have nice shiny hair, you'll know why 😁

If she's living with dogs she'll have had exposure to dog spit before now.

You know, thinking about it, my teeth are excellent. All my own, not a filling (60 soon). Maybe there’s a link …. never occurred to me before 😁

We have all been there. Children eating something not that suitable. Don't worry. Dog food isn't that bad.

iloveeverykindofcat · 30/03/2024 11:57

It's fine. There's nothing dangerous in dog food.

I persisted in trying dog chocolates for years. I suppose I was waiting to find the ones that tasted like chocolate.

MrsSkylerWhite · 30/03/2024 12:00

Hope you’re feeling reassured, OP?

Will always remember a nursery teacher telling me that she’d taken her 18 month or so daughter into a loo on an Intercity, it was filthy.
as she used the loo herself she instructed her daughter not to “touch anything!” Then watched, helpless as said toddler leaned forward and licked the chrome handrail on the door.
said child is about 25 now 😁

onawave · 30/03/2024 12:00

According to my mum pedigree chum mixer was one of my favourite share with the dog snacks when I was a toddler.

MagpiePi · 30/03/2024 12:04

When a friend of mine was a toddler her mum found her shovelling the cat food in while she had the cat clamped under one arm.

Or I heard of someone’s toddler picking up bits off the floor going ‘mmm raisins’. They were actually rabbit droppings.
