Screeching phase?

Helloooo
DD is now 5 months. Just wondered if anyone has experienced this screeching phase that we are currently in ….. or well what I hope is a phase!
she started it a while back and I used to do it back to her as I thought it was quite sweet. But now it’s turned in to full blown loud screech / screams where I think the neighbours must wonder what the hell im doing to her!
she’s perfectly fine lol…. It’s usually when I walk out of the room or it’s when she’s frustrated/bored/teething.

does it end? Please tell me it ends!

I was actually in Sainsbury’s having a coffee while feeding DD yesterday. She became tired and started doing the screeching to which I ignored and started packing up to leave and a lady actually turned and said to me ‘it’s really not healthy for your child to scream like that she clearly is in distress and leaving her isn’t helpful for her or people trying to enjoy their lunch’. I asked if she had children and she said 4, to which I then wondered if this screeching phase is a universal thing or not!

I think if you used to do it back to her she possibly thinks you like it (not entirely wrong of her) and that it's a good way to get your attention (I mean, she's also not wrong!) She's a smart little girl! 😍

I think in your shoes I would totally ignore it. There's very little "discipline" as such you can do with such a small baby, she'll just have to relearn that it doesn't get your attention

Heaps and heaps of praise and smiles for doing other things and of course if she is in pain with teeth etc don't ignore that!

In a couple of years she could be having a full blown tantrum and then the screeches might be cute again 😅 This too shall pass

Har har thank you! She is definitely a smart cookie.
absolutely me doing it back didn’t help and now I blow a raspberry at her when does it as I’d much rather she picked that habit up! ….
well I guess it’s living with screeches until the next phase starts!

Totally a phase. Ours went through it twice!

Our 4 month old does it too. Ignore the unhelpful mardy woman.

Alloveragain3 · 27/03/2024 19:34

Surely all little ones do this when they're finding their voice?
That woman overstepped IMO. Your baby is tiny and doing something utterly normal.

She’s just found her voice, honestly it’s a phase. My LO did this at 5 months…..then came the raspberries phase!

My 8 month old DD loves to screech, does it when happy, excited, annoyed 😂 I’m guessing it’s just a phase like everything else.
The woman in Sainsburys sounds bonkers! Who are these people that make comments like that to complete strangers? Honestly could never ever imagine doing so.

cheeseandketchupsandwich · 27/03/2024 22:20

My 10 month old still does this. It's been a very long and ongoing phase 😂

Sleepisforwho · 27/03/2024 22:31

Glad to know it’s just a phase… albeit one that could last for a long time!

I know, safe to say I’ve seen children do a lot worse than screech in public. But I have found with having a child that people love to give their unsolicited advice in public!
