Meltdowns after nursery

My DS (18mo) is like a different child after nursery - cries hysterically at pick up, all the way home and most of the time till bed. Wants to breastfeed and just be held and meltdowns if anything less. Been in nursery 6mo and fine at drop off. Not overly tired as naps well nursery.

should I be concerned? It’s making our time from pick up to bed really unpleasant

Was he always like this or is it new? What do the nursery staff say about this?
Is he crying when you get there or only as you try to pick him up?

In my experience they come home exhausted. They may nap and get enough sleep but it’s still full on and very stimulating.

My eldest was really well behaved at nursery / pre-school and then just couldn’t hold it together any longer when she came home for quite a few months.

He sounds tired and over stimulated. They can still be tired after a nap (although I'd also question how reliable nursery are being re. reporting his naps).

If being close and having lots of comfort is what he needs, then just do that..and an early night.
