Retained tissue inside baby’s belly button - normal?

Hi everyone,
I just wondered if this is normal or anyone else has seen this in their baby. A couple of weeks ago, I noticed some dark grey tissue inside my five month old babies bellybutton. It wasn’t noticeable before that it doesn’t seem to be inflamed or infected or bothering .the baby. I just wondered if anyone else has seen this. I’ve attached a photo.
TIA x

Is it attached to the skin? It's hard to tell from the photo. Have you tried scooping it out with a cotton bud or similar in case it's a build up of fluff or dead skin cells etc.

I suspect it probably grot. Give it a good scrub!

I used to find popping a good blob of Vaseline into the belly button and then nappying up as usual would dislodge this sort of stuff nicely! (And avoid having to wiggle around with a cotton bud.)

I’d try a gentle wipe out with something greasy like Vaseline . It’ll probably come away.

Not exactly the same, but DD had green pus in hers when she was about a week old, and we panicked and brought her back to the hospital. They just stuck a cotton bud in there and gave it a good clean out. So you can have a bit of a rummage, it doesn't do any harm.
