my lo has just gotten over a very bad case of croup and so i am making allowances for this but he has this past 2 days turned into a horrid little monster when he has not got his own way .yesterday i gave him an icecream which after 5 minutes became clear he did not want as he started to paint it on my sofaso i took it off him and said if you dont want it it goes in the bin to which he threw an almighty paddy i did time out ,distraction even supernanny very quiet voice you name it and still he kept on repeating icecream cone like a bloody mantra eventually i got his toy cat and started tlking to him saying that ds was not very happy and i wished he would be happy etcetc to which lo came around and then today he has done the same with his pasta i gave him 3 warnings that it would go to the birds if he did'nt want it and now he is on thetrain again . i don't know what to do anymore he is so bloody determined and it is just getting so frustraing cos i have trid ignoring everything and he will go ok so i think great we've done it and then he starts sreaming all over again HOW DO I DEAL WITH THIS

How old is he?

LilRedWG · 27/03/2008 17:36

DD is similar at the moment, so you have my sympathy. The only thing I can say, is stick by what you say - do not give in. Toddlers have memories like elephants and he'll remember that Mummy gives in if he's loud enough.

Right - fingers in your ears and repeat the MN mantra after me, "This too shall pass."

VictorianSqualor · 27/03/2008 17:39

Yep MN mantra time, and ignore ignore ignore.
Then count down the minutes til bedtime.

DANCESwithaMuffinTop · 27/03/2008 17:48

Ignore. If he's destroying stuff or hurting anyone or himself put him somewhere quiet like the step to calm down. Then ignore some more.
Try not to laugh when he's being ridiculous. You can sympathise 'you really are cross aren't you etc' but don't bother reasoning (!)or being cross yourself.

Then, repeat the mantra as per previous posts.

Easier said than done I know
