Formula feeding - Newborn

My 7 week old feeds every 2-3 hours. She doesn't take a set amount and can range from 100-150ml she will also have a rest and go back to it after. Her feeding is all over the place and it's rare she will manage 150ml, I'm clearly feeding on demand but is this normal?

Any advice on how I can try and get a little routine going when her feeding is like this?

Night feeds can be difficult because she might fall asleep after 60ml then I will put her in her bed and she will wake 15/20mins later for the rest.

When I started formula at an early age the midwife said it was just breast feeding and to feed on demand. She only got into a better routine where she goes 3 hours between a bottle and has 5 bottles a day religiously at about 3/4 months.

Sounds pretty normal to me. My 10 month old will only have 200ml in a bottle even now and was always more of a little and often drinker. I found that doing things in the early evening like a walk in the fresh air, then straight in the bath would usually get them hungry for milk and would help them sleep for a longer stretch.

Hang in there, with both of mine it got drastically easier at night around the three month mark.

At night have you tried feeding her then when she has had enough change her nappy and then try again before putting her to bed? The changing of the nappy may give her a slight break. When my 8 month old was that age she would take an hour to finish 100ml. The routine will naturally fall into place at around the 3 month mark.

Sounds normal, at this age you’re supposed to feed on demand so you’re doing great. I have a 4 month old and he has 150ml each bottle and has them when he wants.

My ds was feed on demand until about 5 months when he settled into his own routine as a pattern.
