Getting rid of the bottle!

Hello all,

My son is about to turn 14 months and I am trying to gradually wean him off the bottle. He is now happily taking both milk and water in his sippy cup during the day; my issue is that he relies on a bottle of milk to get to sleep both for his nap and at bedtime.

I have tried removing the bottle but he just remains very awake and it’s a nightmare to try and get him down. I’ve also tried using the sippy cup with milk as I would a bottle before sleep but he just has a few sips and clearly indicates that he wants the bottle. Should I persist a bit more and allow him to be a bit cross? Or are there any tips/tricks that has worked for other mums?

Grateful for any advice!!

Thank you
xx

Is it that you don't want him to have a baby bottle or you don't want him to have the milk before bed ?

I've just used a soft spouted transition bottle for my baby at bed time and morning. Probs at about 15 months. After about a fortnight of that I bought a harder spouter bottle and he has that now before teeth and bed.

Both I suppose! Thanks so much for your advice - I shall be buying one of those :)

We moved to soft spout sippy cup thing for a while but DD got very attached to that too. I started watering down her night milk until it was water and funnily enough she didn't want it. So I switched out the soft spout to a hard spout but she barely wants it at all now.

Also, to break the "going to sleep with a bottle" thing we did essentially do controlled crying. It was the only thing that worked.

She's 15 months now, we started at 12 months.
