Should I move up a teat size?

My little boy is 6 weeks old tomorrow and has been finishing 6oz bottles every 3-4 hours for about 2 weeks now but in the last 2 days he's fallen asleep during nearly every bottle and has only finished 1 or 2. I'm sure he's still hungry but just can't be bothered to finish it.

He's also started clicking when he's suckling a lot more in the last couple of weeks and dribbling more like he's really trying hard to get it out. He didn't click to start with so I don't think he has a tongue tie.

Is it time to move up to size 2 teats? We are using MAM bottles ans he really did not get on with the Tommee tippee ones, going hell for leather at them and hardly getting anything out for the effort.

I was a bit dubious about moving up a size so early as size 2 are recommended for 2 months + but every feed seems to be hard work now and it upsets me knowing he's not getting everything he wants 😩

Yes absolutely, he’s showing the classic signs and there’s nothing to be lost by trying- if he’s spluttering and dribbling then you swap back to 1s. Both of mine moved onto 2s at ~6 weeks old too.

Thank you. I'm a first time mum so really don't know what I'm doing when it comes to teat sizes!

He's just polished off about 7oz. Stayed awake, seemed to burp better too. Still dribbled and clicking but he's not choking and doesn't seem like he's struggling with it, but I suppose that's because he's not used to it yet.

Fingers crossed he's okay moving forward 🤞🏼

I'm back!

So I think little man is ready to move up again. He's started to get tired again during feeds, not finishing bottles, losing interest in them, generally getting slow so I moved him up to MAM size 3. First 4-5 feeds he did brilliant, finished majority of them so ordered some more and changed them all for yesterday's feeds but he seemed to struggle yesterday. Last night he seemed to get upset with it so I thought we'd go back to 2's for now. Although he's had 7.5oz this morning, it was in 2 sittings as he seemed to get fed up after 5.5 and wouldn't take the bottle back. Had the other 2 about 15 minutes later in his bouncer.

My gut feeling is he needs to move up a teat.

Shall I persevere with the 3 for a couple of days and see if he gets used to them? We already do paced feeding. I wish there was a 2.5 teat!

There is such a difference between the Mam 2s and 3s isn’t there? I had an Avent teat on the Mam bottles for a bit, can’t remember which one as it was 3 years ago 😭, but it seemed to land somewhere between the 2 Mam ones.

I've seen somewhere that someone used a Tesco one in the Mam bottles but I've just been and looked and they look a different shape, I'm not sure he'll get on with them and that's one of the reasons we changed from Tommee tippee! Why is this so hard?!
