Terrible 2’s - Is this normal behaviour?

So since my son turned 2.5 he’s become really defiant and hard work is the only way I can explain.
His amazingly good behaviours are

  • Bedtime is fairly easy, wriggly to get changed but will go down easily
  • Sleeps through the night
  • Eats practically anything
  • Is gentle and kind with other children
  • No concerns from Nursery about him
  • Loves independent play
  • Confident

My main issue are he just won’t listen to my instruction. He has no fear so will run off in public and refuses to sit in stroller. I bought reigns but it’s not working for us. It’s his general attitude about everything, it’s like a constant fight from morning to daytime because as I said bedtime is generally smooth (probably because he worn himself out ) I’m getting constant No! And wriggly, difficult behaviour. I’m also getting pinching which I’ve told him is wrong but I am ignoring it. I want to get on with practicing putting on shoes / coat / potty training but it feels impossible. As I said at his nursery parents evening they had no concerns about his behaviour apart from “bit fidgety on the carpet but he’s still so young”
His speech is slowly getting there, we have sentences and an explosion of words lately - he is on a waiting list for speech therapy which will take a year.
Is anyone else in the same boat as me or can advise me?
