they are slightly bigger - ds (3.5) bedframe is ikea, mattress is British (not European) and there is a couple of inches space on one side and the bottom.

If for cots you need to be more careful but for older children/adults I wouldn't worry too much.

some do, some dont.

we bought an ikea "double" bed and our normal double mattress was far too small with a really big gap all the way round. had to go and buy the ikea mattress to fit.

i think they are all slightly bigger, our ikea super king sized bed/mattress is huge, much bigger than a uk one.

it's a marketing ploy, so you have to buy the whole lot from them, frame, mattress, bedding etc, but then, they are good value and very comfy.

MerlinsBeard · 27/03/2008 11:04

they are bigger sizes which not only means you need a new mattress but that you will need new bedding as well

PITA!

Bit of false economy then really!!

Thanks for replies.

Its the UK faults for being only part metric not Ikea's!!! Ikea's beds and mattresses are in cm, just like all of Europe, it is only the silly Brits that for some reason still sell mattress in inches! Its not a ploy! We had an ikea bed and bought an ikea mattress. We then got rid of the ikea bed (it wouldnt fit up the stairs of our cottage) but kept the mattress which will just about squeeze into a UK King Size bed even though its a few cms to big. So in conclusion a UK mattress will be slightly too small but depending on the bed frame you might be able to get away will it. Ideally buy an Ikea (or a metric from the internet) mattress though for a better fit, nothing wrong with them, ours in 7 years old and still going strong.

oh and I find standard bedding fit fine.
