Is this cluster feeding?

Hi mumsnetters,

DS is 8 days old today and is EBF. Over the past few days he has started feeding for 50 minutes at a time and less than 30 mins later he is hungry again, lasting about 4/5 hours. He will take a dummy for a few mins but doesn't settle him for long. Is this cluster feeding? I had always read that cluster feeding would be 10-15 mins feeds not 50 mins!

He is definitely getting enough milk as he is having the right number of nappies and is almost back up to his birth weight already.

Any advice appreciated!!

Is this mostly in the evening?

Babies suck for comfort as well as nutrition. Some do it a LOT. My eldest followed this pattern up until 3 months. Was quite relieved that none of my other 3 were quite the same! For most babies I hear it calms down by about week 3, and until that point just do your best to get comfortable

Yes definitely sounds like it mine would cluster for 3-4 hours on an evening then feed for 1-1.5 hour overnight at a time
Thankfully didn't last long just a month or so

Sounds like cluster feeding! DC1 would feed constantly from around 10pm until around 5am with only time for nappy changes in between feeds. It would usually happen 2-3 nights in a row each time and timed roughly with when growth spurts were expected. I found reading the information on la leche league helpful as a way to understand it.
