eennees pouch pants and g-diapers - any thoughts??

does anyone have much experience of using these? dd2 has special needs and is unlikely to toilet train for a while. would like to put her into something though that looks a little less 'nappy-like'.
Am just trying an eennees that I got second hand and have seen some g diapers for sale. Any thoughts on their performance re leaks etc. Bit worried that the leg elastic (which is lovely and comfy at the mo) may get stretched too much in time??
Thanks

I have not used g-diapers myself but there has been a lot of discussion on the ECing formums about them and it has got a very mixed response.

Cloth users hate them, they are more leaky than proper cloth and you still have to buy refills of chemical filled paper to block the sewer system AND the outer needs washing...not very green.

Disposable nappy users love them as they are less leaky than disposables and the cloth covers are much nicer than disposable nappies too.

Have you consider full cloth nappies, you'll save money in the long run ?

should have explained, am already a 100% cloth user. planning to use them with the inserts and prefolds we already have, not the nasty disposable inserts they sell.

so I guess my question is whether anyone else has done the same thing (ie. used with washable inserts) and how that compares with other cloth options (we currently use mostly fuzzis and a few other pockets).

Check the care label on your (W)eenees. The outer should only be washed at 30C max - is that going to be a problem for you?

IME the Mothercare 'Smart' nappy system is generally more reliable than the (W)Eenees system. I think this is due to it having leg gussetts and a bigger pouch (so less leakage). That said, many people who have tried the smart system compared to other Pockets have found the other pockets more reliable.

Sorry, not used G Diapers.

thanks bbm. 30C - eek, will check the label! haven't looked at the Mothercare system, but as it's newer, there may be fewer 2nd hand ones around (never buy new!!)....will go and see

I've seen a few 2nd hand on the various sites and also, on the odd oocassion, some new trial kits going quite cheaply on eBay.

If you want some Weenees I do have a couple here I will be listing somewhere, at some point..... when I can motivate myself

nuru · 28/03/2008 08:59

thanks bbm for your help.
having to wash at 30 will make me bite the bullet and try washing other things at 30 too - need to save some money!!
all the trial kits seem to be newborn and small - dd2 is 11kg now so need large I guess.

what colour are your weenees and how much would you be looking for?

I wouldn't bother with the mothercare trial kits. The sizing is kind of wierd: the large reusable and disposable pads fit into the medium wrap perfectly.

They are good prefold wraps though, a regular sized prefold fits nicely in the large wrap, it's generously sized and they seem quite comfortable and don't leak pee.

The 30 thing is because all Australian brands recommend washing at 30 - you can wash them at 40 but would rinse the pouches anyway as it makes them last longer. Obviously changing to washing at 30 would be good anyway but don't let it deter you.

The colours of weenees are good too. They are okay with prefolds in - I found them handy with ds2 going on holiday but found the pad scrunched up between his legs and wasn't great!

thanks everyone.
have started using the weenee with a prefold inside and it works great - now looking for more so posting a wanted!
