Gaviscon for refluxy baby - how much and when?

Feel a bit daft - had a GP appointment this morning for nearly 4 month old. GP confirmed reflux and has prescribed omeprezole. Also said to give gaviscon. I assumed it would give a dose on the bottle, by it just says for children "as advised by GP". Wish I'd asked!!!

How much do you give a baby, and when? Baby is ebf currently.

I FF DTs and it was a sachet per feed, is yours liquid?

You start with 1 sachet in up to 6 bottles/breastfeeds a day. Prioritise feeds before a nap or a bed time.

Once my daughter got older we could give up to 12 sachets a day as 1 per feed and she and 1 sachet at a time so we could use it in all 9 breastfeds whilst I was awake. Its prep was beyond my abilities at 2 am. We moved to formula at 10 months and since 14 months she has had 2 sachets in any evening bottles of formula or now cups of oat milk.

Start off gently and increase as the consequences of thicker in is thicker out and it can cause constipation. My daughter when she was little needed lactulose too but she doesn't any more.

I kept 2 jars of boiled water on the go, one cooling the other cooled. And refreshed placed the cooled twice a day. I had a syringe, a little dish and the sachets next to me at all times. Ideally you give it before a feed but my daughter had a feeding aversion and we never knew which feed would result in a feed so I gave it as soon as she finished

Ah thanks so much! It's a liquid, but I can work out the dose from what you've said. I'll start on the low side to hopefully avoid too much constipation. I don't always know when DD wants a feed as she's a bit resistant except when she's sleepy but I'll try to predict it.

Thanks so much

We give half a dose 4 times per day and she has 6 feeds per day. Started off giving it with every bottle though and then reduced it as she got bigger (and digestive system matured). She’s small though at 8lb 8.
