Moving Creche

I'm hoping some of you with experience of this might be able to dig me out of the anxiety-filled hole I currently find myself in.

My 3 year old daughters creche is closing. We received 6 weeks notice to find something else. My husband and I scrambled to find another place calling 2 people who are involved in another creche (in our 2nd choice after the one our toddler is in) and they very kindly helped us to secure a place there.

However, I am not relieved. Instead I am in an awful state worrying about how she will transition, how she will manage without all of their little friends having been in the old creche since she was 9 months old.

Please help me to see the wood from the trees here and be grateful that we've secured a place for her. I haven't slept in days worrying about it.

My daughters nursery closed with 20 minutes notice when she was 21 months she had been there since 9 months. We had 13 weeks without regular childcare as in coincided with us moving to a new town so we muddled through with us, 1 grandparent and a pay by the hour nursery at our local gym. She then started at new nursery after our move the day after she turned 2.

She did take more settling with his nursery and had 6 1h sessions 4 of which were the week before she started. She was slow to settle and before the last setting session the manager spoke to me about starting with part time days for the first week. This would have been an option as we had the week off to sort the new house out. As it happened she spent the whole hour without me for the first time and they were happy for to do a full day or close we dropped off a little later and picked up a little earlier than we would typically. The first month she was pulled from my arms but settled as soon as my back was turned. She has thrived there and actually we find it is much better than her previous nursery which we were very happy with before it closed.

Maybe some other children from her existing crèche will also transfer to this new one, as the crèche is closing. All you can do is take a step at a time until she settles, which she will. Can you arrange some part time visits to the new crèche during the next six weeks so she can start to get used to it? Or can you plan some annual leave or shorter work days so that you can stay with her at the new nursery for a while during the transition week? Whatever happens, you need to relax because she will be fine. Many years ago I had to move my son from his childminder to a new one at age three. He settled with no problems whatsoever. He had been with the first childminder since he was three months old.
